RECOGNISING THE in situ FACTORS INFLUENCING
CROP YIELD THROUGH PLANT TISSUE ANALYSIS
1Plants at different growth stages from high - and low -
yielding areas were sampled, sent for partitioning analysis in
the Netherlands for nutritional elements (macro- and micro-)
and other functional elements in the plant tissues.
2. Chlorophyll content of the of the flag leaves during maximum
tillering and panicle initiation stage and grain filling stage were
analysed.
3. The correlation between the elements abundance, chlorophyll
content and crop yield were analysed. Data obtained were
used as a reference for product formulation.

This bar graph gives the pH ranges at which plant nutrients will be most available. The wider
the bar, the more avaiIabIe the nutrient. CaIcium, magnesium and potassium--the
exchangeabIe bases--are most avaiIabIe at high pH and unavaiIabIe at Iow pH. Nitrogen
and sulfur have similar available pH ranges. Iron, manganese, zinc, and copper are Iess
avaiIabIe at high pH vaIues. Phosphorus and boron are unavaiIabIe at both Iow pH and
high pH.
