SECTION A - QP (s)
To OKP cc LTA
Subject of SQN: Driven Piles Penetration Length at POB2 (Southbound)
Date to Reply / Taken Action By: We found that the pile penetration length for POB2 (Southbound) significantly differ from construction drawing requirement (Please find the attached Annex A.) as per BCA requirement, for driven piles any reduction in penetration
more than 20% will be considered as material change in piling works and further QP(D) has to submit the amendment piling plan
before construction (please find attached BCA circular). We seek your immediate response on this issue, further don't proceed any
works on these piles until this issue is satisfactory resolve.

SECTION B - Main Contractor OKP

OKP Report/Reply: ( Attachments :
)
1) As per BCA guideline on submission of amendment and record piling plans, clause 7(d)(ii), the reduction in pile length of more than
20% or any other reduction in length had been assessed duly by the QP(D) on the allowable pile capacity.
2) Please refer to PDA test reports in OKP/ER288/LTA/09-621 dated 5 April 2010 for PC4SB3-2 and OKP/ER288/LTA/09-637 dated 14
April 2010 for PC6SB8-1. Extracts of the results could be found in Attachment 1.
3) As per the test reports, QP(D) is satisfied that the reduction in pile length had no structural implication on the allowable pile capacity.
4) Please note that for any driven piles, the "material changes", in relation to pile length deviation of more than 20%, could only be
determined after the piling work had been carried out.
5) Hence, as advised by QP(D) (see Attachment 2), we'll submit the driving formula used for the works to BCA with the
as-built records as amendment plans, as to satisfy BCA requirements for "material changes".
