GJC celebrates 67th Foundation Day

By Charmaine Alpha Padilla, Mary Joice Bulanadi and Bryan dela Cruz
This fact makes it hard for us to be student teachers. I still remember the moment I entered to their room 37 pairs of eye are all looking at me as if they are all starting to judge me. It sounds awful but yes they look at me from head to foot. I smile at them and I started to make a conversation to release the tension. The first few days are fine until its time for me to handle some of their subjects and thats the beginning of my endless responsibilities. Of course the responsibilities of a student teacher do not stop inside the classroom theres always a take home job as like as the professional teachers do. So when I got home I spend most of my nights doing lesson plan, instructional materials and studying the topic that I am going to teach for the next day hassle right? But this is how our work is done. We must need to be prepared at all times. We do not want to disappoint our pupils. They are expecting too much from us so no matter how hard it is we tried our very best to meet their expectation. In school, we have so many roles. We are not just a teacher there, we can be our pupils nurse if someone is sick, we can be their guidance counselor when trouble comes, we can be their dance instructor when there is a program, a gardener who can help them in beautifying their park, in short all around. We are also an actors and actresses as we stand in front of them that no matter how painful our days are they should not notice it. We must face them with smile and full of

I did my best to relax, and said, Maam, Im only doing my job, and she interrupted me by saying Anong job? Wala kang galang, ipatawag mo supervisor niyo. Count 1,2,3. Breathe in, breathe out. Patience. Patience. Patience. After that incident, my supervisor told me that shes thankful that I have a lot of patience, and the problem is actually in the clients side for shes telling things that are not related in our business transaction with her. More than being exposed to business transactions, accounting works and offices usual tasks, Ive learned that being professional at all times will greatly help in dealing with every office assignment. Patience and humilitythese will truly help a person have a harmonious time and experience at work. -Charmaine Alpha Padilla ***** Are you dreaming to be a teacher? When you ask this question to a grown up this is more likely the answer Thats a tough profession! I will not be rich from that job! I dont want to spend my whole life in studying. but try to ask this question to a young minds with a young hearts. Probably most of them will say YES! And theres no hesitation at all. See how powerful the teachers are in influencing their young pupils. Teachers are the pupils idol. Whatever their teachers do they try to mimic it.

Count 1,2,3. Take a deep breath. Exhale. Back to being professional. These things really helped me with dealing with different people. To push my limits, to extend my patience. Yes, patience, as in the superlative of that word. If I could only change patience is a virtue to patience is a key to success, maybe Ill just make a billboard for it. Within the first two months, I considered my training as a clerical job in the office, but as time goes by, business transactions and dealing with costumers were assigned in me. Business transactionsI believe I did well in it; the accounting department supervisor made me feel that Im very familiar with the database that they are using. I was an intern in a telecommunications company so as expected, I dealt with different species of costumers being courteous is a must. And dealing with customers, well, heres a little story. Everything was fine, until one day this happened. I almost had a nervous breakdown and a heart failure because after talking (over the phone) to a customer, which is more or less composed of my Good morning Maam . . . follow up lang po namin, the response I got was: Ano pangalan mo miss? If you are a great complainer this job would not fit to you because in the field of teaching there are so much responsibilities that you are going to deal with. But you should remember this that practice teaching is not just about hardships or responsibilities but it is also about accomplishments. Seeing those pupils that they learned something from what you have imparted them is already a great accomplishment. And knowing that once in their life you became an instrument to fulfill their dreams is enough to take away all your sacrifices during the practicum. -Mary Joice Bulanadi ***** We really exerted effort, we contributed our strengths and skills to work and extend patience for our OJT in Hotel Elizabeth in Baguio City. Its really a tough experience. Before deployment, all of us were excited to train in Baguio because we were expecting the same training atmosphere as when we had in our 2nd year. But like I said its a tough one, it is not easy like what we are expecting. before, we are just more on assisting/helping, observing and all of the staff are nice. But in Hotel Elizabeth its the other way around. A simple briefing at first and the next are all hands-on load of work our own way and techniques. Most of the time they leave the work to us OJTs . but

simple mistakes could be the cause of our suspension or even termination of our training. They are just as strict as that. Im sweaty even if its cold because I need to work fast because the guests are arriving. Forgetting that Im hungry, forgetting that Im thirsty. I have nothing to do with it I want to show them that I can do it. I want to please them. There came a time when I started to think of giving up. But I didnt do that, I just extend my patience and be open-minded to think maybe that is their way of teaching us (trainees). You know what? I am right. i just realized that yes, I learned a lot. I enhanced my skills and techniques in doing hotel standards. In order-taking, handling guests, cooking, even in table skirting and flower arrangement. I improved those skills because their letting us to do it on our own. They are strict? Yes, but it is just their way of correcting us. There is a question in a written exit-interview for trainees that are about to finish asking if I am going to recommend the hotel for younger future hotelier? I honestly say no, because Im mad that time. But now? Its still no, but only for those who are not willing to extend help, for those who are unskilled and not knowledgeable and mostly for those who dont have patience because Im sure they cant last even a week in that hotel. Reviving the dormant Sabah claim

Editorial

Desperate actions
ust how many Filipinos can pinpoint the location of Sabah if given a map of Asia? And if most of us find it difficult to identify where Sabah is, how could we expect Filipinos to know the historical background of our claim to the territory? A quick scan of Philippine history books would reveal that Sabah is rarely mentioned in our textbooks, thus it is no wonder that many are ignorant of our countrys claim to that resource-rich land now in possession of Malaysia. In his article North Borneo (Sabah): An annotated timeline 1640s-present, Manuel Quezon III provides a comprehensive timeline tracing key events on the Sabah issue. According to the historical timeline, in the 15th century, the Islamic sultanate of Brunei was nominally in control of Borneo, including Sabah. In 1658, the Sultan of Brunei ceded Sabah and Palawan to the Sultan of Sulu in compensation for his help in settling a civil war in the Brunei Sultanate. And in 1878, under the threat of an attack, Sulu Sultan Jamal ul-Alam leased North Borneo to the Hong Kong-based British trading company of Baron Gustavos von Overbeck and Alfred Dent for 5,300 ringgit ($5,000). Sabah was then colonized by Britain, which insists that it was ceded to them and not just leased or rented. When Sabah became a part of the Federation of Malaysia in 1963, the Malaysian government assumed responsibility for the payment of the 5,300 ringgit fee to the heirs of the Sulu Sultanate. Of course, a hundred years ago, $5,000 was a huge sum. But at present, Malaysia continues to pay the same amount which when converted to our currency rougly translates to a measly sum of P70,000. But if it is the Sultan who owns Sabah, how then does that make it a part of the Philippines? In 1962, in return for supporting their proprietary claims over Sabah, the heirs of the Sultanate gave up their sovereignty rights over Sabah to the government of the Republic of the Philippines. The 1973 Constitution during the Marcos era reflected this sovereign claim when it defined the national territory to include lands to which the Philippines has historic or legal title. However, the 1987 Constitution ratified during the presidency of Corazon Aquino dropped this clause. While no formal renunciation of the Sabah claim has been undertaken, it might now as well be considered as dead. What remains at present is the proprietary right, or private ownership of the Sulu Sultan over the land in question. One would be naive to think that we could still retake Sabah at this point in time. A more realistic aim would be to ask for an increase of the rent being paid to the Sultanate. And with the governments continuous disregard of the Sabah question, who could blame the Sultanate for resorting to desperate actions?

related to their career path. This poses a challenge before us future teachers. Aside from giving us more job opportunities in favor to us, it transforms our country to an internationally competent one. However, there are prices to be paid. The K-12 program requires mastery in our respective fields. In order to be able to keep up with the changing times, we must be adaptable to the increasing demand imposed upon us. Longer years and career advancement would cause us to put more effort in our studies. It may be a daunting task, but we should carry on if we want to see our country in the road to speedy progress. It requires longer years of studying and teaching, but if we continue to prevail, we will greatly benefit from it.

hat is LCD? LCD stands for Liquid Crystal Display. Liquid Crystal reflects light even though its a liquid. The substance san be manipulated easily by electricity, heat, or simply your finger. Gently push a finger against an LCD screen and watch as the screen changes under pressure. In laptops, the liquid crystals are squirted between two sheets of polarized glass or plastic. Just like sunglasses, the polarized sheet keep out all light except for the waves that are parallel to their particular plane. The two planes in the liquid crystal display are normally at right angles; that means they filter out all the light. But because the liquid crystal displays are twisted, they can bend the light enough to let it pass through. When tiny electrodes embedded in the display pass

current through the liquid crystals, however, they untwist, blocking the light. This makes a small dot on the screen. By varying the flow of electricity to various parts of the screen, the liquid crystal does a hula dance of twists, effectively lightning and darkening portions of screen. Use these tips as a guide for answering typical questions during interviews. Here are some suggestions on how to begin to answer them;

the rest is up to you. Bear in mind that there is no right way to answer such questions. You can practice expanding on these suggested answers on your own: Q: Tell me about yourself. A: I put my heart into everything I do, whether it is sports or work. I find that getting along with your peers and being part of the team makes life more enjoyable and productive. Q: How much is the salary you are expecting? A: Sir/Maam (name of interviewer), my previous employers felt I am worth the money I earn due to my skills, dedication, and honesty. Were we to work together, I am sure I could demonstrate my value and my ability to contribute to (type of business of the company) and to your department as well. Q: Why do you want to

e would like to know what you think or feel about certain issues. So what do GJCians think about the Sabah issue? Should the Philippines revive its dormant claim on the Sabah territory that is now a part of Malaysia or not? That means sa atin ang Sabah and we have the power to assert our ownership. Divine Grace Macapagal ***** Its a little bit too late since may nabuo ng tensiyon between the two parties. However, since andiyan na yan, i-pursue na natin yung claim. Even though the Philippines is one of the poorest and weakest countries, our government must show that we are not just some island na pwedeng pagpira-pirasuhin. Our government must show our sovereignty over those places that we own. Happiness
By Jovita Acibal, BSEd III
Some said that you will be happy if you have lots of money, And in the society, everyone is recognizing you as somebody; But how about those who dont have any, Living as if they are just but... nobody! Being happy is something man really wants to see, In spite that this world sometimes is full of misery; man keeps on seeking what would really make him happy, Someone, somewhere and something that would satisfy him fully. But still... theres an inner longing of true happiness inside, Questions and retaliations on how and where it can be found; Until one day, he accepted the love of God and it he abided, There he rises up and knows that happiness has not been denied

Operating system review: The new Windows 8

By Edmar Marquez
Windows 8 OS is now released worldwide. Main features of Windows 8 OS which I found are as follows: 1.It is fast as compared to previous OSs. 2. Fast start and shut down. 3. Increased battery life, my laptop battery life increased by almost half an hour. 4. Better security features, windows defender itself works as an antivirus. 5. More colourful and also had introduced feature of touch applications but I do not have that in my laptop. Good for tabs and windows supporting touch phones. 6. At the time of installation you can see the difference in your laptop or desktop that it has become as colorful and vibrant as you may have never seen it before. You can say that it unleashes more untouched features of your computer which you may have not used before. Personalization effects are just wonderful. Drawbacks: 1. Start menu will disappear after its installation, you will have to either create shortcut of your programs on desktop you use frequently or will have to press the windows key every time to access them. 2. Since most of our habitual to older menu and design you may find it difficult sometimes to use it. But with time you will get used to it. 3. Will become difficult to go to control panel, you will have to click the Computer icon every time and then click the control panel on top to access it. If you will install Windows 8 it will take over your old OS like windows 7, it did to mine. I did try to create a different partition to install it but still it took over my windows 7 installation and got installed over it and transferred them to a backup folder named Windows old. If you want to buy it you can do so from the site of Microsoft which is given in the reference url. In India it will start with pricing Rs.699 but that was when you go for upgrade if you have purchased windows 7 PC between June 2012 to 31 January, 2013. Windows 8 OS will make your computer look more like a tablet or mobile phone with its colorful features. I found an alternative to start menu in Windows 8 OS i.e. pokki a small program which I found as an advertisement on this site itself. I am using it and it works exactly as the Windows start menu used to do. Try it and it will definitely remove all the complains about no start menu. Windows 8 is a very power OS and if you can get a hang of it then nothing would stop you. You cannot update your old versions to get Windows 8 in your system. This is one of the major limitations of existing windows 7 users. Though Microsoft is working in this field, till then you have to buy a complete new package of windows 8 and get it installed in your system. You can get original Window 8 OS from regional dealers of Microsoft whose details are available in their official sites. *****

WHATS NEW. The expanded Start button of the latest Windows version is optimized for touchscreen devices.

Loving Silently
By Czarina Elaine S. Parreo, BEEd III Loving you silently is really hard for me bcoz expressing myself is my personality. My heart is aching everytime I see, that someone is making you happy. I know for you Im just a friend, but for me, youre more than a friend.

A Lovelier Love

Love is lovelier the second time around Thats what they say both the young and old Perhaps yes, but maybe not by the one who got me fooled Next time Ill make sure itll be someone more matured. Love is lovelier the second time around The love with no limitations but still with certain donts Im not getting any younger though Im not that old And Im always properly guided and reminded by folks. Love is lovelier the second time around Everything will soon be settled, everything will be perfect I stumbled but Ill stand proud and face the real world I fell and so I learned; Ill try and love again. Love is lovelier the second time around I will try it once more for the one who truly loves Love is lovelier the second time around I will ask God to bless it I will pray for it so hard.

Pusoy Nakalimot Na

Kapag akoy kulang sa pera, The solution is your bulsa.

How I wish my dream would come true that someday, you will love me too. Im afraid to tell you, What I feel bcoz Im not ready to shed a tear. To be with you is a fantasy Thats why Im loving you silently.

So today weve outlined whats moving and shaking in the information and communication technology (ICT) industry as identified by our Samsung SDS affiliate, which provides ICT services. We will share with you some of the 2013 IT Mega Trends announced by Samsung SDS last month that will likely bring significant impact to the ICT industry, as well as to the rest of society, in the near future. Value Creation Through Big Data It is most likely that you use at least one of various social networking services available out there to stay connected with your friends and a key element behind this growing phenomenon is big data. Big data has begun to provide new economic values to enterprises and the society as a whole, and competence in collecting and using data will increasingly become a key determinant in the competitiveness of not only a company but a government as well.

Progress in Cloud Services More reliable and secure cloud services are becoming more and more available due to the development of networks and virtualization technology as well as active research into cloud security. The cloud service industry will continue to grow, accelerating transformation into the cloud-centric IT environment. IT Consolidation As IT products and the related infrastructure become more complex, IT managers are offering products that integrate multiple functions for more efficient IT management. These highly integrated products are being increasingly used both by companies and individuals as they provide more flexibility and user empowerment. Smart Vehicles Cars of the future will function as more than a means of transport, but a device that intelligently interacts with people,

other vehicles and the surrounding infrastructure like the roads. Vehicles are getting smart through convergence with ICT, offering a platform where users can experience the same kind of experiences they are familiar on their smartphones and tablets. Re-visioning of Green IT The earlier concept of green IT involved using IT in reducing energy consumption and the environmental footprints of companies. In attempting to do so, however, unintended increase in energy consumption and pollution resulted by the IT industry itself. Re-visioning of green IT attempts to reduce energy consumption and the environmental footprint of the IT itself, while helping to do the same for the industries it supports. For example, by building a data centre in a cold region, a company can make use of the cold air outside for cooling the temperate inside.

I share the values that make this possible, which should enable me to fit in and complement the team. I believe that the company can provide me with a stable and happy working environment. I think that your company has that reputation and that such an atmosphere would encourage my best work. Q: Can you work under pressure? A: Yes, I usually find it stimulating. However, I believe in planning and proper time management to reduce panic deadlines within my area of responsibilities. Q: Why should I hire you? A: I believe I have the qualifications that you need; I am team player; and I take directions and have the desire to reach success. Q: Can you take instructions criticism without feeling hurt or upset? A: Yes, I can take instructions-and more importantly, I can take constructive criticism without feeling hurt. Even with the best intent, I will still make mistakes and at times someone will have to put me back on the right track. I know that if I expect to rise in the company, I must first prove myself to be manageable. Q: What is your greatest strength? What do you consider your outstanding qualities? A: Perhaps my greatest strength is the ability to stick to a difficult task yet be able to change course rapidly when required. I believe in planning and proper management of my time and yet I can still work under pressure. ***** CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL COLLEGE GJCIANS GRADUATING STUDENTS THIS COMING MARCH 2013. Edmar Marquez and John Bryan Fernandez copped the championship in the Class C Badminton Syquio tournament held last December 2012 in Cabanatuan City. Meanwhile Gavino Galvez and Sidney Andan finished second in the Class D tournament. The players have undergone training under Mr. Eleazar Crisolo. Pinaghandaan namin yung laban through trainings. Nagpakondisyon kami, tapos nakipag-tuneup game din kami with other players sa labas ng school, Marquez tell of their training before the tournamnent. So how did our athletes face the challenges of rigorous training? Determination para manalo, 1% perspiration and 99% perspiration. Hard work talaga ang kailangan, Fernandez explains. There were challenges met before the victory but our athletes overcame them along the way. There were challenges such as financial problems, but luckily nagawan ng paraan yun. Another is the availability ng bawat kasama namin. Still we strived and pushed through, Marquez said. The athletes were coached by Ms. Avegael Fortunato, Sports Coordinator and SPSHigh School Head. *****
