PART 2 - PRODUCTS 2.1 MATERIAL: A. Lightning protection system shall be air terminal type and shall conform to the applicable requirements of NFPA 780 and the Underwriters' Laboratories installation requirement for "Masters Labels' System", UL 96A. Air Terminals shall be of 98% conductivity solid copper tapered rod extending not less than 600 mm above the object they protect, and shall have a proper base support for the surface on which they are used and shall be securely anchored to that surface. Air terminals shall be provided on perimeter of roof as shown on the drawings. The mounting of air terminals shall be as shown on drawings or approved by the Engineer. Fasteners shall be approved nut and bolt type, substantial in construction, not subject to breakage, and shall be of the same material as the conductor or of such nature that there will be no serious tendency toward electrolytic corrosion in the presence of moisture because of contact between the different parts. Fasteners shall be spaced not more than 1m apart on all conductors. Conductors: All main size conductors shall be lightning conductor cable consisting of 36 strands #12 AWG copper wire. Secondary conductors for connecting to low vent pipes, roof exhausts, roof drains, etc., shall be copper conductor cable consisting of 34 strands of #14 AWG wire. Roof Conductors coursed along the building perimeter surfaces shall be secured with copper fasteners. The downlead conductors shall be concealed and routed down in cavity wall as shown on the drawings, or embedded in concrete walls. Splices: Conductor splices shall be as few as practicable but where required shall be made using only bolt tension fittings. No compression fittings will be permitted. Down conductor shall terminate at a ground rod which is part of the common building grid. Ground rods shall be 19 x 3000 mm copper-cladded steel, unless indicated otherwise on the drawings. Ground rods shall comply with requirements of Section 16452 - GROUNDING.
