College Hockey America All-Academic Team Announced


(Eleven Earn Student-Athlete of the Year Honor)
HAVERHILL, Mass. College Hockey America Commisioner Robert DeGregorio proudly announced today
that 77 student-athletes have been named to the 2012-13 CHA All-Academic Team. A conference-record eleven student-athletes earned additional distinction as the CHA Student-Athletes of the Year by posting cumulative GPAs of 4.0. Five players from Lindenwood received this honor, as well as three from Mercyhurst, two from RIT and one from Robert Morris. Representing Lindenwood are a pair of defensemen, senior Amy Stober and junior Chelsea Witwicke, sophomore forwards Kendra Broad and Alison Wickenheiser, and freshman goaltender Nicole Hensley. Mercyhurst added their own pair of forwards, seniors Gina Buquet and Lauren Jones, as well as sophomore goalkeeper Julia DiTondo. RIT sophomores Celeste Brown (F) and Ali Binnington (GK) also received Student Athlete of the Year laurels, along with Robert Morris sophomore forward Katelyn Scott. Of the 77 that were recognized as members of the All-Academic Team this season, Robert Morris placed the most with 21. Penn State added 15 players, followed by Syracuse with 12. Four members of the All-Academic Team were also named to the First Team All-Conference, along with six members of the Second All-Conference Team, and one member of the All-Rookie Team. The individual award winners for Player of the Year (Christine Bestland, Mercyhurst), Rookie of the Year (Nicole Hensley, Lindenwood), Sportsman of the Year (Holly Carrie-Mattimoe, Syracuse), and Best Defensive Forward (Margot Scharfe, Syracuse) also made the list. To qualify for the College Hockey America All-Academic Team an individual must post a 3.0 grade point average or higher in all of the academic periods during which her team was actively competing.
