CHRIfiTMAfi DAY
Every day - even an ordinary day - at Nihos de Mexico is filled with plenty of excitement, but there is one day of the year that stands out above all others, and that is Christmas day. Words can not describe the enthusiasm of the children. In fact, there is no way to describe the enthusiasm of the houseparents. May we take this issue of the Niffos News to show you what it is like to be surrounded by all the gaiety and fun of this day?

We hope these pictures have given you a small glimpse of what happens at our homes at Christ mas time. Of course, we must give a big THANK YOU to each one of you who helped to make it possible. Your gifts and prayers throughout the year and especially at this Christmas season is the reason that the children are so happy and thankful. From all of the staff and family of Ninos de Mexico, we sincerely express our heartfelt thanks for your support and concern.

Christmas services and job commitments prevented some from coming, and although the group was not as large as it might have been we did have a wonderful evening together. SixtyThe children who attended and their families, are shown below.

On Chnstmas Eve we made our first attempt to bring together as many of the young people as

three family members and friends met to celebrate Christmas together. We look forward to another reunion in 1985 - not during the holiday season - when we hope all will be able to

The evening began around 6:00 P.M. as the guests began to arrive. It was somewhat amusing as the former members greeted each other. Two or three questions seemed to be often repeat

ed. 'Where are you living now?' 'Are you mrrried?' 'How many children do you have now?' At 7:30 the big Christmas Eve meal was served. It was provided by Fidel and Isias Nunez, two young people who grew up in the home, were married there, and went out to begin their life together. In August of 1983 they returned to become houseparents. We thought you might enjoy some of the pictures around the table.

AN EVENING Vl/ITH NINOS da MEXICO

Recently friends of Ninos de Mexico from St. Louis, Missouri, Wichita, Kansas and Indianapo lis, Indiana had a special opportunity to become more familiar with the work of Mexico. Dur
ing the latter part of November, they were able to join with members of Ninos de Mexico for

an enjoyable evening. An area wide event was held in each of these three cities. ing included great food, excellent music, and fantastic fellowship.

The even

Members of NifTos de Mexico present included Enrique Gutierrez, a fine young Christian man who
grew up in the home and is now in his third year of Law School. Enrique gave his own testi mony of what has happened in his life because Christian people have cared enough to share Jesus Christ in his country. He also gave his very personal thanks to all who have made his chance for a full life possible. It was a very moving and emotional experience for those in
attendance.

Don Bader, Executive Director of NifTos de Mexico, showed a multi-media

slide program of

the

children and the homes in Mexico. The presentation had a slightly different viewpoint as it was presented from a housemother's point of view.

Music for the evening was presented by John Sinclair, a splendid musician and a member of the Board of Directors of Ninos de Mexico. John wrote the song, 'It Shouldn't Hurt To Be A Child', that is now the theme song for the Mexican work. He sang it as part of his musical
program.

To close out the program Lanson Ross, author of "Total Life Prosperity", gave a brief summ ation and challenge based on Luke 5:5 and 6. Mr. Ross stated that Nirios de Mexico has cast the net, the fishing is great, and we need help to bring in the catch. There are more op portunities than our present craft can hold. We need more boats and more fishermen. From the remarks and letters we have received from those attending, the evening was a blessing to all present. Nearly everyone we have heard from has indicated that they would like to attend a similar program next year. Twenty-nine people who attended the dinners became members of our Ambassadors Club. The Ambassadors Club is a new program that is the base support group of the future growth of Ninos de Mexico. We are pleased with the response we have received from these three programs and hope they will become an annual event. If you would like information on our Ambassadors Club please drop us a note.

BIG PROGRAM - BIG HELP

I-H.E.L.P. CLUB MEMBERS RESPOND!

Recently we had a major problem at our home in Huexotla, the water pipes broke. The plumbing was old when we purchased the house, and we had been patching the system as we went along, but the patches finally gave out as well. This meant carrying water, and when you have a large family you just
can't imagine how many buckets of water it takes every day.

TRIBUTE TO "NANA" MEYER

On March 28, 1973, God gave to Delia Meyer the rest that He had been prepar ing for her for a long time. As of this month eleven years have passed since that date that for many of us is remembered with much affection. Those of UB who remembered Mrs. Meyer have many memories of the time when we

For those of us who knew her, she left a profound impression of her love for Nihos de Mexico. The testimony of her Christian life spoke to us as few

Although the house at that time only had a small kitchen and a tiny pantry, she did her best to feed us, making much out of little, just as Jesus did
when the people needed Him.

I remember how she did her best to cook when we would come in very hungry after working in the fields or putting on a concrete roof by hand. She, a~

Her Christian life showed us a very great faith in God. 1 remember that on Sundays very early she would accompany us to Mexico City to church services and although she did not understand everything in our language, she was joy ful along with us when we saw people accept God and be baptized, and we were

making for our sake, as we only had the necessities and sometimes not even that much. Sometimes out of necessity we only had tortillas and beans for supper. The conditions at the house were very different from the facilites that we have now. On one evening we only had a glass of milk and a few beans for each of us. 1 ate mine while someone watched me, and as soon as 1 finished, she offered me more. And that l i t t l e bit more was all of the food for that day. That did not look very important, but I realized later that Mrs, Meyer had given me her own supper because she usually served all of us
first and then she ate last.

I remember t4va^the4ast t4mas-tha^tsh^e-came^rshe was nt)-tas stTtyTrgars-be fore because sometimes she got sick, but even then she wanted to keep on working. Her physical strength was diminishing, but not her strength of will. Sometimes she hurt her hands with the hot and heavy pots that she tried to l i f t . As I have said a couple of times when I was thanking various churches, her life and sacrifices that she made for my brothers and sisters and for me are a reason for thankfulness to the Lord and to people like Mrs. Meyer who, although God has taken them from us, continue to be remembered.

VALENTINE

PARTY

The young people at the Bethany home prepared for their Valentine Party with lots of excitement and enthusiasm. Wall decorations, table place mats, plus baskets all
decorated in red and uihite were

children.

One of the things you will notice whenever you visit any of our homes is that there is always work to do. Ramon is undertaking a very large job of building a cabi net for the Bethany home. He did a real good job. Carpentry work has been of great interest to Ramon lately and he is now wanting to work in that area after school is completed.

Not only was it necessary to walk, but the path was

all uphill, going up into the large mountains of Oaxaca, As Fidel said, "Everything in this area is rocks". At the end of a very lone day they finally arrived at the place where the children lived. It took only a few
seconds to see why they needed help. The house where the children lived was find some warm place somewhere

few tortillas for her to eat.

The mother's 'live in* friend wanted the boy to stay around so he could help, but he didn't want the girl. Fidel and Isaias said the little girl would cry and say she didn't want to stay, would they please give her away. This is where Nifios de Mexico comes in. Fidel and Isaias knew immediately they must help. Even though their house was already almost full, they were burdened by the children's needs and made arrangements to take both of the
children.

Now, after spending one day in the mountains with the children, they must begin the long journey home. One day of walking down the mountain and then

HOW TO PRAY FOR MISSIONARIES

your family.

LEARN ABOUT THE WORK OF YOUR PRAYER PARTNER. Pray that the Lord will help him or her find time and avenues for effective ministry through direct evangelism and through support ministries, such as medicine, education, linguistics, or neighborhood contacts. Pray that the Holy Spirit will anoint the l i f e of the missionary and also touch the hearts of the nationals that they may respond to the gospel. Pray that communicative skills will be
easily mastered. VISUALIZE THE "COST" FACTOR INVOLVED IN BECOMING A MISSIONARY. Adults

choose to serve on foreign soil} however, there are unknowns and risks in volved. When children reach school age, many families must be separated. That's costly! Single missionaries are often cut off from chances for marriage. Pray that God will sustain them through their hardships.

The line of beneficiary is spouse, the children, then parents, then Ninos de Mexico. However, Ninos de Mexico may be designated as the number one beneficiary thus your actual contribution to Niiios de Mexico would double at the time of your
death.

L.Ross: How can this be possible, how

does it work?

J. Lee: When a person gives in a calendar year's time an accumulative total of $100 or more, Ninos de Mexico uses 6.12% to invest in Fidelity Security Life Insurance Company so they can provide the Return of Gifts Program for our Ninos Ambassadors
members.

L.Ross: Is Ninos able to give a tax deductible receipt for the full amount of the gift? J. Lee: Yes, the IRS ruling is that the entire gift is deductible because Ninos, not the donor, is providing the coverage for the return of gifts. L Ross: Is the return of gifts scriptural? J. Lee: Yes, you fulfill two scriptures. I Cor. 9:6-11 and II Cor. 9:1-15 challenge us to share generously with those in need. I Timothy tells us to care for our families. In the Return of Gifts we do both. We give money to the Lord's work and add to the estate we leave at our death. Also, receiving a tax donation for his gift increases his spendable income for his family.
L.Ross: Is there a medical examination

L. Ross: You have mentioned age 70. Is that

when a person drops out of the
program?

L. Ross: Give me an example.

J. Lee: Certainly. Let's use Paul and Debbie Jones as an example. Paul gives $50.00 a month to Ninos de Mexico. After 25 years, Paul dies, having donated $15,000.00to Ninos de Mexico. Upon notification of Paul's death, Fidelity Security Life Insurance pays to Debbie $15,000 of tax-free money. She can
use this as a part of Paul's estate or she can give it to Ninos de Mexico as a memorial in
Paul's name.

J. Lee: Age 70 is a key time in that all contributions of $100 to $3000 per year given each year to age 70 will be returned. Past age 70 the donor must give $100 per year until his death to keep the program in force.
L. Ross: What if I give over $3000 per year?

J. Lee: The policy only allows credit for $3000

each year. However, you can split a larger gift with your spouse or children and give them the benefit of the program.
L. Ross: What at>out cancellation?
J. Lee: For the accumulation to continue the

Paul has been blessed by giving generously to Niiios de Mexico during his lifetime. Ninos has been blessed by using the $15,000 Paul has given over the years.
Debbie is blessed because Paul has left an

additional $15,000 to help her meetthe^

critical needs of life, and in addition Ninos de

donor must give a minimum of $100 per year. In failing to do this the policy is automatically cancelled. So a donor starts the program when his accumulated giving reaches $100 in a calendar year and the policy requires a minimum accumulated gift of $100 per calendar year to keep the program in effect.
Also, the Ninos de Mexico board of directors reserves the right to cancel the

Mexico has received $1500.00. So you can see everyone receives good from the
program.

L.Ross: Is it possible for me to give to

Ninos de Mexico.

L. Ross: Is it possible for a church to

J. Lee: Remember only people can be covered. A church can designate its gift in
the name of its minister and allow him to

receive the benefit of this program.

L.Ross: Why is Ninos de Mexico offering the return of gifts program?

J. Lee: Because we believe it is good Christian stewardship to be part of the work of Christ by giving and at the same time be assuring our family of help in the future.

These people utere a big help to our family. The Garrisons had a big van they traveled in, and it, driven by Mr. Garrison, was used to haul kids, go to the store, and make many other necessary trips. The Wests brought a
large amount of sewing materials, and Mrs. West made pajamas and dresses for

many of the children. Rosa Merdaco and Jerry Lyne (not pictured) worked, without stopping, for ten weeks sewing and repairing buildings. Carl, on his second visit, and being a school teacher, served as a summer tutor, and
brought many of our students up to date in some of their problem areas.

As a young boy, No6 Flores dreamed of becoming a medical doctor. His school studies, as far back as Primary School, were chosen with this goal in mind. CHOIR TRIP mw HISTORY

The 198M Ninos de Mexico Youth Choir trip is noui history, and as we look back on the.twenty 'one night' appearances, i t is considered a huge success. The children were worn out, the sponsors were completely exhausted but when asked if they were ready to go again they all responded, "Let's go now". The trip began on August 2, 198M at the 'Genesis Home', very early in the morning when SM children and sponsors started for the border. The majority of them came out on the train. That was a twenty-six hour ride. To make the train ride even more interesting, there was no dining car on the train, so three meals had to be planned and packed for the children. Everyone arrived safely at Laredo on the third, went through the long process of getting the proper papers to cross the border, and then - BELIEVE IT OR NOT - all thirty-five of us (Don Bader met them in Laredo) got into two vehicles, a small school bus and a van, and began the eight hour drive to Dallas, Texas. extremely car people the
