May 22, 2009

Dear Parents,
For the week of May 25-29
I wrote two weeks ago to thank you all for the support the High School receives
from the community. This week I would like to publicly acknowledge and thank Monday, May 25
the great job our teaching faculty does. At about this time last year I mentioned HS Honors and Awards Assembly
that I had been very impressed with the student – teacher relationship that 12:30-2:45 Fine Arts Theater
exists in the HS at ISM. This relationship is based on mutual respect and I IB 11 Visual Arts Exhibit (FAT Lobby)
believe it is evident in many of our school activities, both inside and outside the
classroom. Tuesday, May 26

Senior Graduation Rehearsal 1-4pm
At this time of the year it is always difficult to say farewell to faculty who for
various reasons have decided to move on from ISM and or Manila. I would like to Wednesday, May 27
pay special tribute to two extraordinary educators whose work will be deeply Student Late Start
missed. Dr Caroline Brokvam and Stale Brokvam have held two key roles at ISM. IB 11 Visual Arts Exhibit (FAT Lobby)
Caroline has done an outstanding job of leading the high school forward on key Whole School Assembly—Fashion Show
educational initiatives, while all the time being the chief enforcer of our 12:30-1:30pm Senior University Orientation
discipline code. It is a tough assignment and Caroline has completed her tasks by Alumni (LT)
with integrity and dignity. Stale has served as our IT Curriculum Director and he 1-4pm Senior Graduation Rehearsal
has quietly succeeded in pushing the faculty into new technologies, even when 3-4pm Helping

fine teachers, it would be remiss of me not to mention the outstanding service
IB 11 Visual Arts Exhibit (FAT Lobby)
Elsie Rodriguez has given ISM. An IB Math teacher from almost before the IB Senior Graduation Rehearsal 8-11am
began; Elsie has dedicated her life to teaching Math at ISM. Over 30 years of ISM Senior Celebration Ceremony 3-7pm
students have had the benefit of her expertise, math skill and wonderful
personality. We wish her all the best in retirement. Other teachers departing Friday, May 29
this year include; Emily Stanford, Jeremy Trotter, Jane Ellys, Hermie Ranera, IB 11 Visual Arts Exhibit (FAT Lobby)
and Cameron Perry. I would like to thank all departing faculty for their HS Graduation 5:30pm FAT
tremendous contributions to the High School program.

The month of May is always very busy as we finish one academic year and plan Dates to Remember:
for the next. I would however like to remind all parents of three important
“ceremonies” that will take place this over the next week. On Monday May 25th June 4: Last Day of School- Early
we have the High School Honors and Awards ceremony, later that week; on Release for Students
Friday May 29th we have High School Graduation. Of more immediate interest June 6: SAT (LT, AMR, ES Gym,1057)
for the students is the Junior-Senior Prom to be held tomorrow night at the
Intercontinental Hotel Ballroom.

I would like to extend a warm invitation to all parents to attend the HS Honors
and Awards Assembly. It is an opportunity to honor student excellence in the
areas of academics and outstanding service to the school.

Kind regards,

William R.S. Brown Dr. Caroline Brokvam

A MESSAGE FROM
THE OPERATIONS AND SECURITY DEPARTMENT
I. IDs for the New School Year

• Current parent IDs will continue to be valid for the new school year 2009-2010.
• Parents who require replacement school IDs due to loss or damage can acquire these from the Security Office
upon payment of Php100.00 to the Cashier.

Student IDs
All students will be issued with new ID cards at the beginning of the new school year. To facilitate this they
should visit the security office before the end of the current school year for the taking of their photograph.

School Passes
• School passes issued to parent’s employees and representatives need to be replaced for next school year. As of
August 31, 2009 the blue bordered passes will be invalid.
• The security office is now accepting applications for new school passes, however the cards will not be available
for collection before July 1, 2009.
• Each family will be given two free school passes. Additional school passes may be obtained after paying a
processing fee of Php100.00 each to the Cashier’s Office.

2, Car Stickers for the New School Year

The car stickers for school year 2009/2010 will be available from the security office beginning July 1, 2009.

For vehicles already displaying an existing sticker, parents should submit a completed renewal form with a copy of a
current LTO official receipt. For new vehicles, parents are reminded that a copy of the vehicle’s certificate of
registration and a current official receipt need to be submitted with the application. Applications for vehicles registered
with companies or other institutions should be supported by a letter of assignment.

Each ISM family will be issued one vehicle sticker free of charge. Any additional stickers will be issued following payment
of P100 to the cashier’s office.

I would like to thank all members of the ISM community for their cooperation across this school year in helping us
maintain ISM as a safe and secure environment for our children.

From the Clinic:
It is coming up to the time of year when many of you will pay a return visit to the countries you call home. One of the jobs
which is often on the list of things to complete when you are at home is updating your child’s immunizations. For your
reference, I have included links to US immunization schedules for 0-6 years and 7-18 years of age. Whilst not everyone
has used the US system, it is very similar to most comprehensive immunization schedules in developed countries world
wide. In addition, we recommend people living in the Philippines have the typhoid vaccination. The hope is that this will
prompt everyone, no matter where they are this summer, to ensure that their children are up-to-date with their
immunizations. If in doubt, please check with your doctor. We love our children, let’s keep them safe!
Best wishes for a happy, healthy summer, from the Clinic.

For Grade 12 Parents:

Dear parents and members of the Class of 2009:

As the school year comes to a close, the time has come when the Senior Class traditionally engages in a number of special
events. These activities are basically meant to allow the departing students time to both reflect on their high school days
and to gain some invaluable information that will surely benefit them in the future. Above all, however, these activities are
meant for the sheer enjoyment of the senior class. The Senior Class Council and graduation committee will be coordinating
these activities, and have asked us to advise you regarding such activities at this time.

The High School Awards Ceremony will be held on Monday, May 25, at 12:30pm in the Fine Arts Theatre. The student
body, grades 9-11 are in attendance and we would love to see as many seniors in attendance as possible.

Graduation practices are on Tuesday, 26 May, Wednesday, 27 May. The practices will begin at 1:00pm in the FAT and
should end before 4:00pm. Only those students who attend graduation practice sessions will be allowed to participate in
our graduation ceremony. Seniors should also return textbooks, clean out lockers, settle any other outstanding accounts
and complete their clearance form, in order to get their diplomas.

The Senior Lunch, courtesy of the graduation committee and senior parents, will be at 11.30am on Thursday, 28 May. On
the same day there will be a Senior Celebration Ceremony commencing at 3:00pm in the Fine Arts Theater. This ceremony
will feature students from the senior class speaking and performing various acts. It is a fun event designed to show case
senior pride and talent! All parents are invited to attend.

Our Commencement Exercises will be held on Friday, 29 May, starting at 5:30pm in the Fine Arts Theater on ISM’s
campus. Candidates for graduation, properly attired in caps and gowns, must assemble in the AMR no later than 4:30pm.
We actually advise that seniors plan to be on the ISM campus by 4:00pm. Women are expected to wear black dress shoes as
well as semi-formal dress/slacks underneath their robes. Men should wear white shirts with collars, dark ties, dark dress
pants, black shoes and socks.

Each graduating student will be given four tickets for the ceremony – two tickets for the senior’s parents will have reserved
seating while the other two will be on a general admission (open seating) basis. Please return extra tickets to the High
School Office, so that they can be reissued on a first come, first served basis to accommodate those with more guests. If
more than 4 tickets are needed, requests may be submitted to the High School Office. Only those with tickets will be
allowed entry.

Please note that pictures may only be taken from your seats; you will not be allowed near the stage or in the aisles during
the ceremony. The official photographer, Tino Ley, will be on hand during the ceremony to take photos of the graduates
and will also have a booth set-up in the High School Band room before the graduation ceremony. Please see the attached
announcement with regards to the schedule to be followed for graduation photographs. Already included in the ISM
graduation package are the following items:

One (1) 5x7 photo of graduate receiving the certificate

One (1) 5x7 photo of graduate holding the certificate
One (1) 5x7 photo of graduate with family or group
One (1) Senior Photo CD (a momento of the Senior Celebration)
Additional copies of photographs can be ordered along with a DVD copy of the graduation rites. Please see the second
attachment for the prices of these services. Orders may be placed directly with the photographer on the day of graduation.
International School Manila is not involved in the payment and distribution of orders made with the photographer.

Please remember to pay the P2500 to the cashier for the graduation package as soon as possible, to cover the costs for the
official graduation pictures and the senior lunch.

This year, the Junior-Senior Prom will be held on Saturday, 23 May, starting at 7:00pm and lasting until 11:30pm at the
Intercontinental Hotel, Makati City. We are requiring that all students stay at the prom from 8:00pm until at
least 11:00pm. We will close the doors and no students will be permitted to enter or leave the ballroom between these times.
We advise parents to have their children picked up by 11.30pm at the latest when the event will officially end. Parents
should also be knowledgeable about their children’s whereabouts if they have plans after the Prom, as the School will not
be responsible after the official Prom event is over.

It is also important that we mention the post-graduation trip to Boracay that many senior students seem to be planning. To
clarify, this trip is not a school-sponsored trip and there will be no chaperones from the school. The school does not
endorse participation in this event.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me. Thank you for your involvement during this
momentous time in the lives of our graduates.

William R.S. Brown
