N. Cannon EDTECH 597 4/5/2013 Title: Season 12, Episode 11 episode of MythBusters Duel Dilemmas on the Discovery Channel.

Content: Adam Savage and Jamie Hyneman test two myths, Should you really never bring a knife to a gunfight? and *In a duel+ does the first to move lose? Kari Byron, Grant Imahara and Tory Belleci determine if a two stage missile known as the fire breathing dragon ever really existed and its practicality in that era. Teaching strategies: In this episode of MythBusters, and every other that I have seen, the Scientific Method is used to help either confirm, bust or show that the myth is plausible. In earlier episodes, Adam and Jaime would use a simple variation of the scientific method to test the myth which was best described as, "replicate the circumstances, then duplicate the results. This show is designed for anyone who is interested in science and/or wants to be entertained because as the introduction goes, they dont just tell the myths; they put them to the test! Entertainment/instructional elements: In its 13th season, the show can appeal to anyone who has ever asked Why? or Can that really happen? There are constant reminders of what the myth is and what the team is trying to do to show its validity through either old TV/video clips, cartoonish drawings or explanations from the MythBusters themselves. Everyone involved in the testing of the myth works together in such a way that even if you are showing the concept of Team work this show would be applicable. With the show being very scientific and about myths that we have heard, seen or come across in our lives, there are constant reminders of safety throughout the show since the MythBusters are experts. The MythBusters thoughts and reactions are genuine throughout the show which makes it seem very believable and relatable. It seems like the viewer is right there with them and part of the team! Finally, the show realizes that when the hour long show is over, the questions and learning doesnt just stop with viewers. To help with this, MythBusters have been using their Discovery Channel website to help people who are still curious why the team did what they did or didnt do with this weeks myth or for people who just cant get enough learning!
