OurnextSoupLuncheonwillbeheldonMonday 12th
August at 12 noon. To assist with catering please

The primary movaon behind these events is to


provide an opportunity for those in our community
who are lonely to come together and share in the
delicioussoupsthatareserved.

The dedicated group of parishioners who help run


these events is becoming desperate for addional
people to help on these days. There is a greatdeal of
me that goes into these days, not only in planning
the soups but also the preparaon of the Parish Hall
(sengupthetables,sengthecutleryandcrockery,
serving the soup, etc) in addion the clearing and
cleaningupaerwards.

Thesmallgroupofdedicatedvolunteers(ahandfulof
67)whoaccomplishthisarethemselvesgengolder,
and there needs to be an injecon of some younger
blood into the group to allow these events to
connue. If the number of volunteers cannot be
increased it may be necessary to disconnue these
funcons. Please consider coming along and helping
out at these funconseven if its only to help with
thecleaningup.

The1951UNRefugeeConvenon,whichAustraliahas
signed,denesarefugeeassomeonewhohasawell
founded fear of persecuon in their own country,

or social aicon. In other words, refugees are
ordinarypeopletryingtoescapewar,persecuonand
horror.

Archbishop Denis J. Hart DD, President of the


Australian Catholic Bishops Conference and
ArchbishopofMelbourne,recentlystateTheissueof
refugees and asylum seekers is a dicult one for
Australia to deal with, but it starts rst with our
hearts. We must not forget the central place in this
for prayer to reect on what we can do, both
individuallyandasacommunityforthestrangerswho
come to our shores. We know we must love the
strangers and we know there is no real love without
sacricewemustgooutofourwaytohelp.

Over the next few weeks we will connue to explore


the quesons What can I do? How am I responsible
for a migrant or person seeking asylum? through a
long tradion of social teachings, personal stories of
human dignity and challenging facts aimed at the
policies, pracces and pastoral care of migrants and
refugees.

As we menoned last week, the results of the recent
survey into married life revealed some interesng
insights:

Thereare6couplesintheParishwhohavebeen
marriedfor60+years;
There are 25 couples in the Parish who have
beenmarried5059years;and
There are 32 couples in the Parish who have
beenmarried4049years.

Thats a grand total of 63 couples who have been


married in excess of 40 years. If both husband and
wife are present at Mass, thats 126 peopleor one
quarterofouraverageMassgoingcongregaon.

So if you want your childrens or grandchildrens


marriages to last tell them to join a praying,
worshippingcommunity!

You may have noced that we have started to insert
the name of St Joseph into the Eucharisc Prayers at
Massinthelastmonthorso.

This has come about because on the 1st May 2013,


Pope Francis conrmed a decree of the Congregaon
for Divine Worship that inserts the name of Joseph
into the remaining Eucharisc Prayers found in the
Roman Missal (his name was already present in
Eucharisc Prayer 1). It took some me for the
approvedwordstobeformulated,butoncetheywere
nalised we were invited to begin including them in
theremainingEuchariscPrayers.

For those who have purchased the new missals, please
dont be concerned: minor changes and addions like this
happen frequentlyand it will test Fr Andrews memory
eachandeverydayunlitbecomessecondnature!

new musical seng for use at our celebraons of
Mass. The introducon of this new seng will
also provide a second opon for our Parish
celebraons.

Entled the Mass of St Francis, this is the Mass
seng that is oen used at Diocesan
celebraons, and this is why we have chosen to
add this seng to our Parish repertoire.

The new seng will be introduced bit by bit over

Asaresultofthatmeeng,wewillbeintroducingthe
Liturgy of the Hours(i.e.MorningorEveningPrayer)
on those days. This liturgy, also called the Prayer of
the Church or Divine Oce, might inially be strange
to many parishioners, but there are enough people
familiar with the format of this liturgy that its
introducon will not be overly burdensome. It was
also suggested that the Liturgy of the Hours could be
celebrated on Monday morningsand I would
certainlyhavenoobjecontothistakingplace.

Wearecurrentlyacquiringthenecessaryresourcesfor
these liturgies to be celebrated in the Parish
community, and their commencement will be
announcedintheBridgeside Bullenoncetheyarrive.

When we process forward to receive Communion,


we have been asked by the Australian Bishops to
adopt a common and unied gesture of reverence
before doing so. In Australia that gesture is a bow
of the head and shoulders (GIRM, 160). Any other
formofreverence,includingagenuecon,should
thereforebeavoided.
Communion by selfinncon (selfdipping) is
neverpermied,sincewereceiveCommunionand
never take Communion. Please refrain from this
inappropriateacon.
We regret that we do not have the physical
facilies to oer communion while kneeling, and
respecully ask you to refrain from kneeling to
receive Communion while part of the procession,
since this is contrary to the nature of the
Communion procession itself. Your cooperaon in
honouring this request is very much appreciated,
andwethankyouforyourconsideraon.
