Descriptions of Front-Panel Features and Indicator Lights Icon Description The power-on indicator lights when the system power is on. The power button controls the DC power supply output to the system. Use the power button to perform a graceful shutdown before you remove the system from the AC power source.

In the Steelhead Management Console and in the Riverbed Command-Line Interface (CLI), you reference the LAN and WAN ports by their interface names. The interface names for the gigabit Ethernet ports are formed by combining the port type (lan or wan), the number of the slot containing the NIC (0), and the number of the port pair (0 or 1): lan0_0, wan0_0, lan0_1, and wan0_1. NOTE: In Series EX560 and EX760 systems, the LAN and WAN port pairs are numbered in descending order (1, 0) from left to right.

System Messages
System messages appear at the system console to notify you of a possible problem with the system. Table 1-7 provides probable causes and corrective actions for system messages. NOTE: If you receive a system message not listed in the table, check the documentation for the application that is running when the message appears or the operating system's documentation for an explanation of the message and recommended action.

If the system front panel displays a diagnostic indicator code that refers to a system component that is not field serviceable or replaceable, the corrective action described in Table 1-6, "Codes for System Diagnostic Indicator Lights" on page 9, instructs you to contact Riverbed Support. Similarly, if you encounter a system message that refers to a system component that is not field serviceable or replaceable, the corrective action described in Table 1-7, "System Message Causes and Corrective Actions" on page 11, instructs you to contact Riverbed Support.

Keep the following points in mind when you remove the cooling shroud: The memory modules and heat sink can get very hot during normal operation. Ensure that the memory modules and heat sink have had sufficient time to cool before you touch them. Never operate your system with the cooling shroud removed. The system may get overheated quickly, resulting in shutdown of the system and loss of data.

Memory module sockets labeled 2 and 1 are the first sockets of channels B and A, respectively. The first socket of each channel is identified by white release levers.
2 Turn on the system and then note the messages on the screen. If an error message indicates a fault with a specific memory module, go to step 12. 3 Turn off the system and then disconnect the system from the power source. 4 Open the system. See "Removing the Front Bezel" on page 27 and "Removing the System Cover" on page 28. 5 Wear a grounding wrist strap. 6 Remove the cooling shroud. See "Removing the Cooling Shroud" on page 31. 7 Locate the four memory modules. See Figure 2-1, "Inside the System" on page 23 and Figure 2-2, "System Board Connectors" on page 24. Alignment key
IMPORTANT: Handle each memory module only on either card edge, and avoid touching the middle of the memory module. 7 Press down and out on the ejectors at each end of the socket, as shown in Figure 2-6, to allow the new memory module to be inserted into the socket.

8 Align the memory module's edge connector with the alignment key of the memory module socket, and insert the memory module in the socket. The memory module socket has an alignment key that allows you to install the memory module in the socket in only one way. IMPORTANT: Handle each memory module only on either card edge, and avoid touching the middle of the memory module. 9 Press down on the memory module with your thumbs to lock the memory module into the socket. When the memory module is properly seated in the socket, the ejectors on the memory module socket align with the ejectors on the other sockets that have memory modules installed. 10 Repeat step 7 through step 9 of this procedure to install the remaining memory modules. See "Supported Memory Module Configurations" on page 34. 11 Install the cooling shroud. See "Installing the Cooling Shroud" on page 32. 12 Close the system cover. See "Installing the System Cover" on page 29 and "Installing the Front Bezel" on page 27. 13 Reconnect the system to the power source, and turn on the system.

2 Locate the faulty fan indicated by the output of the RiOS CLI command show stats fan. The command output displays the current RPM and error status of the fan that you specify. 3 Turn off the system, and then disconnect the system from the power source. 4 Open the system. See "Removing the Front Bezel" on page 27 and "Removing the System Cover" on page 28. 5 Remove the cooling shroud. See "Removing the Cooling Shroud" on page 31. CAUTION: The memory modules and heat sink can get very hot during normal operation. Ensure that the memory modules and heat sink have had sufficient time to cool before you touch them. 6 Reseat the power cable of each system fan. For the locations of the three system fans, see "System Board Connectors" on page 24. 7 Close the system. NOTE: The fan can continue to spin for some time after the system has been powered down. Allow time for the fan to stop spinning before removing it from the system. 4 Disconnect the fans power cable from the system board. See Figure 2-7. 5 Grasp the old or failed fan and lift it away from the fan assembly. See Figure 2-7.

6 Ensure that the new or replacement fan is oriented correctly. Orient the fan module so that the side with the power cable faces the back of the system. 7 Lower the fan into the fan assembly until the fan is fully seated. See Figure 2-7. 8 Connect the fans power cable to the fan power connector on the system board. 9 Repeat step 4 through step 8 to replace all three system fans. 40
10 Replace the cooling shroud. See "Installing the Cooling Shroud" on page 32. 11 Close the system. See "Installing the System Cover" on page 29 and "Installing the Front Bezel" on page 27. 12 Reconnect the system to the power source, and then turn on the system.

Series EX560 and EX760 systems support one 4-port GbE TX copper NIC installed in an expansion-card riser. The NIC is not hot-swappable.
2 Ensure that all network cables are of the proper type and do not exceed the maximum length. 3 Turn off the system, and then disconnect the system from the power source. 4 Disconnect the Ethernet cables from the LAN and WAN ports. 5 Open the system. See "Removing the Front Bezel" on page 27 and "Removing the System Cover" on page 28. 6 Wear a grounding wrist strap. 7 Make sure that the NIC edge connector is firmly seated in the expansion-card riser. 6 Grasp the old or failed NIC by its edges and carefully remove it from the connector on the expansion-card riser. 7 Holding the new or replacement NIC by its edges, position the card so that the card-edge connector aligns with the expansion-card connector on the expansion-card riser. 8 Insert the card-edge connector firmly into the expansion-card connector until the card is fully seated. 9 Close the expansion-card latch. See Figure 2-8. 10 Close the system. See "Installing the System Cover" on page 29 and "Installing the Front Bezel" on page 27. 11 Reconnect the system to the power source, and then turn on the system. 12 Re attach the Ethernet cables to the LAN and WAN ports.

Replacement hard disk drives are available as an assembly consisting of a hard disk drive installed in a drive carrier.

While pulling the carrier release pin up, grip the drive carrier and slide it away from the chassis wall. Lift the drive carrier away from the system.

5 Install the new or replacement hard disk drive and attached drive carrier into the chassis.

Align the four slots under the drive carrier with the four tabs on the chassis. See Figure 2-9. Slide the drive carrier toward the chassis wall till it snaps into place.
6 Connect the SATA power and data cables to the two receptacles at the back of the hard drive. See Figure 2-9, "Removing and Installing a 3.5-Inch Hard Drive" on page 47. 7 Close the system. See "Installing the System Cover" on page 29 and "Installing the Front Bezel" on page 27. 8 Reconnect the system to the power source, and then turn on the system.
