AUTHORITY.
1.General Requirement
1.1 Scope It is the intent of this specification, whether or not specifically mentioned herein to describe a diesel engine driven, crawler tractor, equipped with hydraulically operated semi-universal Dozer with single shank ripper having operating weight of appr. 36,000 kgs including ROPS- canopy.

Statement of Compliance with Comments

We offer one unit of Caterpillar model D8R track type tractor, which is diesel engine driven, and Crawler tractor, equipped with hydraulically operated semi-universal (8SU) bulldozer with tilt cylinder, single shank ripper and ROPS/FOPS canopy having operating weight of 37,875kg. We offered ROPS Cab and air conditioner are quoted as optional for your decision. The offered Caterpillar model D8R Track-type Tractor is tropicalized and dependable for operating under the service requirement herein and rough as well as dusty and sand terrains.

Altitude varies from sea level to an average of 2200 mts. 1.3 Manufacturing Requirements 1.3.1General All parts, components, attachments and accessories not specifically mentioned in this specification but essential for dependable and efficient operation of the unit shall be furnished by the supplier as part of this bid and shall be in accordance with current engineering and manufacturing practices and according to prevailing trade provisions in general.

The offered Caterpillar model D8R track type tractor can be used efficiently on Construction Project in Ethiopia where the following site conditions are experienced. Climate varying from humid tropics to arid desert. Temperature varying between 00C to 500C. Altitude varying from sea level to an average of 3800 meters elevation.

All parts, components, attachments and accessories which are essential for dependable and efficient operation of the offered track type tractor will be furnished in accordance with current Caterpillar engineering and manufacturing practices. All components and accessories will be manufactured in according with current Caterpillar Engineering and manufacturing practices and according to prevailing trade provisions in general.

1.3.2 Materials The materials of which all parts, attachments, accessories and components of the unit bid upon are manufactured and assembled shall be of the current technology durable and reliable for the intended purpose. The finish shall be of high quality and good workmanship with dependable operation. 1.4 Warranty The supplier of the bidder shall guarantee that all items included and/or furnished with the unit bid upon shall be new, unused, of the most recent or current models and incorporate all recent improvements in design and materials. The bidder shall also guarantee to replace free of charge (transport, labour and other expenses incurred thereof) any part of component that breaks or fail to function in any manner under the service conditions described herein due to defective or inferior materials or poor workmanship within a period of 12 months or 2000hrs whichever comes last, from the date of receipt of the unit at final destination. 1.5 Recommended Spare Parts List The bidder must furnish the suggested list of recommended spare parts for the first 4000 hrs of operation or to the value of 15% of order, with price valid for a period of one year. 1.6 Dealership Preference Preference in making an award will usually be given to the equipment manufacturer having a well established dealership in Addis Ababa, and is certified as the sole agent by the manufacturer, i.e, dealership with well organized maintenance center, mobile crews that fulfills the following conditions. We also guarantee to repair or replace free of charge components or parts that may break or fail to function under normal service conditions specified in your tender due to defective or inferior material or poor workmanship within a period 12 months or 2000 hours whichever comes first from the date of delivery at final destination.

We will undertake inspection and servicing of the unit free of charge at our premises at Addis Ababa or at your site before delivery of the machine. This including washing, greasing, lubrication, adjustment and calibration (if any) to your Satisfaction. We will bear all costs (parts, material, labor etc.) of the pre-delivery service. 1.8 Non Compliance with Specification In the event that the unit bid upon does not fully comply with these specifications, the bidder shall state definitely wherein the unit he proposed to furnish does not comply, referring to the applicable paragraph of these specifications. When no statement of the contrary is received, the We have stated under each paragraph of this technical specification comparison document whether we fully meet your requirements or not. 2 Engine
2.1 General The diesel engine shall perform smoothly and efficiently under all conditions of operation described above and shall develop the rated horsepower when operating on deferent working condition. 2.2 Type The engine shall be four stroke cycles; water cooled; turbocharged with not less than six cylinders and should be equipped with replaceable wet type cylinders sleeves. 2.3 Horse Power Page 7 of 16 The Cat 3406C engine perform smoothly and efficiently under all conditions of operation described in the service requirement section above and develops the rated horsepower according to the manufactures current standard when operating on deferent working condition.

The Cat model 3406C engine is direct injection, four stroke cycle, water-cooled, turbocharged and after cooled. The engine has six (6) inline cylinders with replaceable wet type cylinder liners/sleeves.

The engine shall deliver min. 300HP SAE J1349 net, at flywheel at rated RPM equipped cooling fan, air cleaner, alternator, andot her required engine accessories. 2.4 Required Engine Data The manufacturer shall submit certified engine data with his bid showing net power, torque at governed RPM. The supplier shall also furnish certified average fuel consumption per hour when the dozer is working under different work modes (heavy, medium and light).

The Caterpillar 3406C engine deliver 303HP net at flywheel at 2100 R.P.M under ISO9249 when the engine is equipped with a fan at maximum speed, air cleaner, muffler and alternator

The fuel consumption usually depends on the environmental conditions, type of machine, fuel type and operator skills. The average fuel consumption of the caterpillar model D8R track type tractor when working under different working load is as follows: Heavy work load ..46 lit/hr Moderate work load.. 36 lit/hr Light work load 27 lit/hr The lubrication system of the 3406C engine is full force feed type by gear driven. Oil filtration is done by one high efficiency replaceable full flow cartridge filter. The engine lubrication system incorporates bypass valve to protect sensitive parts of the engine from damage in case of oil filter clogged. The offered Caterpillar model D8R track type tractor is equipped with heavy-duty 24volt direct electric system. The electric starting motor has sufficient cranking power, which can start the engine satisfactory at temperature as low as 0oc without recourse to any auxiliary heating or starting device, glow plugs, or fluid-priming system required. The fuel tank is properly ventilated and protected both internally and externally from corrosion. It also incorporates a baffled sump to collect water formed by condensation and properly supported with an underside sheet metal for protection.

3 Fuel System
3.1 Fuel tank The fuel tank or tanks shall be properly ventilated, protected both internally and externally from corrosion and must incorporate a baffled sump to collect water formed by condensation, properly supported with an underside sheet metal for protection.

3.2 Injection Pump The injection pump shall be mechanically drive with current technology govern controlled driven with all necessary regulatory and controlling attachments. 3.3 Injection Injectors shall be accessible, interchangeable and readily removable. 3.4 Fuel filter The fuel filters shall be dual with water and sediment trap and shall be accessible, replaceable and readily removable for quick maintenance. 3.5 Water Separator A water separator shall be installed in diesel supply system to prevent the water from going to the fuel system. It shall also retain rust, metal and dirty particles.

The Caterpillar 3406C engine fuel injection pump is mechanically driven scroll type direct injection pump equipped with all necessary regulatory and controlling devices. All the injectors are adjustment free, easily accessible, interchangeable and readily removable

The fuel system has dual filters in series with water and sediment trap which are accessible and readily removable for quick maintenance. A water separator is also installed in diesel fuel supply system to separate water and fuel and prevent dirt from going to fuel system. It also retains rust, metal & dirt particles. The cooling system is tropicalized, closed, pressurized pump forced type water medium and has ample capacity to permit continuous full load operation of the engine without boiling of the coolant under the conditions specified in the service requirement section of the tender. The Cooling System incorporates an efficient tropicalzed thermostat for prompt warming of the coolant during cold start.

4 Cooling System
The cooling system shall be tropicalized, closed, pressurized, pump forced type water medium with ample capacity to permit continuous full load operation of the engine without boiling of the coolant under the conditions specified in the service requirement herein. The cooling system shall incorporate an efficient tropicalized thermostat. 4.1 Radiator The radiator shall be tropicalized of the heavy duty construction, properly mounted to withstand shocks and strains likely to be encountered in operation. The radiator shall have adequate capacity and flow area, plus a compensation for the altitudes and temperatures in Ethiopia. The radiator shall be easily removable and accessible for maintenance.

The radiator is a tropicallized heavy-duty construction property mounted on the front of the machine frame to with stand shocks and strains likely to be encountered in operation. The radiator has 92 liters refill capacity which is adequate flow areas and equipped with altitude or pressure compensator & temperatures in Ethiopia. The cooling system is an Advanced Modular Cooling System (AMOCS) and multi-row/core type which utilizes an exclusive two pass cooling surface area to provide significantly more cooling capacity than conventional system. Each core module of the radiator is easily removable and accessible individually for cleaning and maintenance, so it can

save considerable cost and repair time. 4.2 Cooling Fan The cooling system shall be fitted with adequate size direct drive cooling fan blowing away from the engine in forward direction to the radiator. The cooling system has an adequate size direct drive cooling fan and blowing away air from the engine in the forward direction.

5 Air Cleaner
Heavy duty of a two stage dry type air cleaner preferably fitted with a pre-cleaner with restriction gauge/indicator of ample capacity shall be furnished. The air cleaner shall be well protected from external damage and strong enough to with stand shock and impact.

6 Electrical System
The electrical system shall be composed of but not limited to complete 24v electric starting, charging and lighting systems, electric switches and two keys. All wiring shall be enclosed in non metallic loom.

The electric system is composed of 24V direct electric starting system, charging alternator, batteries and lights and protection devices. The electrical system incorporates electric switches and two key systems-i.e. battery disconnect and starting. All wiring is enclosed in a non-metallic loom and the system is protected by fuses against short circuit. The alternator is heavy-duty, fan ventilated with an electronic voltage regulator provided within the system. The alternator has an adequate capacity to provide service under normal operating conditions. The alternator has rated capacity of 24v/75Amp.

6.1 Alternator The alternator shall be heavy duty; fan ventilated with electronic voltage regulator and shall be of adequate capacity to provide service under operating conditions. Approximate rated capcity of alternator shall be 24v/50Amp. 6.2 Batteries The batteries shall be maintenance free, heavy duty of ample power to start the engine when cold at sufficient speed down to ambient temperature of 00c .

7, Steering
The steering system shall be a differential steering design, which delivers uninterrupted power to both track, and turns the machine by speeding up one track and slowing the other. It shall allow the operator to steer and change directions easily.

The transmission has three speed forward and three speed reverse .The maximum forward speed and reverse speeds are 10.8km/hr and 13.9km/hr respectively. The transmission is capable of instantaneous shifting under full load in all gears and direction. Furthermore, special modulation system incorporated in the transmission hydraulic system that permits fast speed and direction changes.

The track frame shall be ruggedly constructed to resist shock loads and permit oscillation between tracks. The dozing blade is hydraulically operated with push-pull arms & tilting arrangement & it is made of high grade, heavy-duty arc welded box framed steel construction suitable for use with the track tractor specified herein. The weight of the semi-universal dozer without hydraulic control is 4570Kg and blade capacity of the semi universal blade is 8.7m3.

The rear-mounted ripper shall be a singleshank of adjustable parallelogram design, actuated hydraulically from the operator seat.

13. Hydraulic System

The hydraulic system shall consist of separate pumping sections for steering, transmission, dozing equipment, ripper operation, equipped with adequate capacity of tank, filters, strainers and valves. 13.1 Hydraulic Pressure Hoses The hose shall consist of a seamless oil resistant synthetic rubber tube, one braid or high tensile steel wire and a weather oil resistant rubber cover with hydraulic hose fittings at either end.

The offered Caterpillar model D8R track type tractor is equipped with separate hydraulic pumps section for steering, transmission, for hydraulic implements, and ripper operation with adequate capacity of tank, lines and return filters, strainers and valves. The hydraulic hoses are CAT XT hoses with reusable coupling, and meet the critical flexibility and strength demand requirements. These hoses are high temperature and oil resistant type and are reinforced by high tensile steel wire braid and are covered (protected) from external damages, wherever they are exposed to danger.

Upholstered cushioned seat with arm rests placed for good visibility of the operator and for efficient operation of the machine is required.

A comfortable suspension seat with adjustable fore & aft and arm rests are fitted on the unit for greater operator comfort, good visibility of the operator and for efficient operation of the machine.

15. Cab
The dozer shall be equipped with ROPS Canopy. Bidders shall quote for enclosed ROPS Cab and air conditioner as optional.

The offered Caterpillar model D8R track type tractor is equipped with ROPS/FOPS canopy. We offered fully enclosed ROPS cab and air conditioner as an optional for your decision. The operator workstation is equipped with ergonomic control placement and convenient adjustments, low lever and pedal effort, that are easily accessible to a normal size operator and do not require exorbitant amount of effort for activities.

16. Controls
All operating controls shall be easily accessible to normal sized operator and shall not require an exorbitant amount of effort for activities.
