Former President Jimmy carter was the president who declared that the month of March as National Womens History Month. Since 1987, our country has been celebrating prominent women in our countrys history. Summer Hill Elementary joins in this celebration by highlighting one woman each day. Students have been researching important women from the past and using their research to write mini biographies to share what they have learned. Once a week, two students are chosen to read their writings over during the morning announcements. A few of the women who have been highlighted are: Dr. Shirley Jackson 1st African-American to receive a doctorate from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (M.I.T.). She is an outstanding leader in the fields of education, science, technology and public policy. Jackie Joyner-Kersee1st African-American woman to win Olympic gold in the long jump.

Be a Test-Stress Buster!
Our students regularly take tests in school. Testing is how we measure their academic growth, and it is how we evaluate the effectiveness of our teachers instruction. Though we work hard to make the process as less stressful as possible, test-stress can still negatively affect students performance. Below are some tips to avoiding teststress. 1. Be well-prepared by paying attention everyday in class! 2. 3. 4. Get a good nights sleep. Eat a healthy breakfast. Read the directions slowly & carefully. 5. 6. 7. Underline key words and phrases. SHOW YOUR WORK!! Dont worry about how fast other people finish. Correct answers matter more than fast answers!
