Description of the match: First match of 3 Qualifying round of CL between Basel and Maccabi Tel Aviv. The match was played at St. Jacob-Park of Basel and presented an attendance of 12353. Match was quite fair without many difficulties and in a calm and easy going atmosphere. Both teams wanted to get the result ahead of the second leg but also wanted to present their technical abilities. In that extent the referee wasnt challenged a lot and did a decent job overall with the exception of the missed penalty and some other points for improvement.

Application and interpretation of the Laws of the Game / match control, tactical approach and management of the game with the special situation(s) of the minute(s): Comments: He had a good application of the LoTG in most situations. He was able to recognize every serious foul and had a good distinction of what is and what isnt a foul resulting in a total of 20 fouls. His management of the game was good even though the match wasnt so challenging. His biggest minus was the penalty he missed for Basel at min. 6 when even though he had an optimal position he mis-valued the whole situation and failed to indicate the obvious penalty. Minute 06 Description of the situation Streller (BAS) enters the penalty area while in possession of the ball and is being pushed by Yeini (MTA). The referee even though he is close enough mis-values the situation and decides a play-on.

Disciplinary control, management of players and team officials (bench) with the special situation(s) of the minute(s): Comments: His disciplinary control and management of the players was very good. All the cards he issued were justified but he could have issued 1-2 more in some offences. He issued the cards in the appropriate manner separating the offender from the other players. Furthermore he correctly cautioned the 2 players for dissent at min. 38 and intervened almost immediately Minute Description of the situation

He should anticipate such situation due to the nature of both teams.

Co-operation with assistant referees, additional assistant referees (where applicable) and fourth official: Co-operation with assistant referees was good. They helped him in foul situations and they seemed to talk him a lot.

Personality: He appeared too relaxed and as a result he missed some situations and had to use his cards a little more than needed. It was obvious that he was influenced since it was the first European match of the season and didnt have full preparation.

General comments, advice on performance and personality: He should have more awareness especially at the start of the match. He shouldnt be so relaxed because that caused him the missed penalty situation at min. 6.

Comments: He started the match well with 1 Onside call (min. 01) and a correct offside call (min. 14) but then he made 2 consecutive mistakes on offside calls (mins. 26, 32) and made another mistake when a player of Basel was in offside position and returned to take the ball and became active. Stocker (BAS) is in offside position and returns and takes the ball becoming active. Not given.
