INVITATION

On this 66th anniversary of Indias independence, we would like to invite you to an exciting weekend of discussions at our annual Independence week conclave in Deoria. The Jagriti Annual Conclave is being hosted in Deoria, on Saturday, 17th and Sunday, 18th August, 2013. We have an eminent lineup of speakers in Anshu Gupta of Goonj, Vijay Pratap Singh Aditya of EkGaon and Bindeshwar Pathak (TBC) of Sulabh International. The central theme of the conclave will be 'building India through enterprise' in the context of rural and small town India. We will explore how an enterprise mindset can strengthen the country as opposed to grant and subsidies which are becoming a norm. This will be highlighted through role model speakers in their respective areas. We will also discuss and investigate how local institutions like the gram panchayats can be involved in Udyam Janit Vikas as a model of development. We will explore how the recent demand for smaller states is sparking a debate on local development. Finally, we will try to understand how technology can prove to be a game-changer in this development process.

SPEAKERS
Anshu Gupta
Anshu Gupta, popularly known as the Clothing Man, started Goonj in 1996 to tackle lack of clothing as much bigger problem than it was considered at that point. What started out as an idea has turned into a nationwide movement over the last 15 years.

Vijay Pratap Singh Aditya

Vijay Pratap Singh Aditya is the co-founder and CEO of EkGaon Technologies which develops technologies and information systems for enabling access to services and markets for rural producers and artisans. He has spoken during previous Yatras as a panelist, provoking discussion on the role of technology in villages.

Bindeshwar Pathak
Bindeshwar Pathak is the founder of Sulabh International, an India-based social service organization which works to promote sanitation and hygiene through an enterprise approach. His name has become synonymous with a cando spirit and an obsession with scaling up a social idea across the country. Jagriti Sewa Sansthan 2

Venue
Barpar is a small village in Deoria and the
birthplace of Jagriti. It is named after the Banyan Tree (Bar), beyond which (Par) the village is situated. This tree which adjoins Barpar is the symbol of Jagriti Sewa Sansthan. Jagriti Yatra 2009 - 2012 made a one day stop in Barpar, when 450 participants took part in Biz-Gyan Tree exercise.

Kushinagar is the place where Buddha left his mortal

body. A giant statue of Buddha in a reclining mode is located here as are a number of ancient monuments and modern Buddhist monasteries. It is situated 45 minute drive away from Barpar. Stay for visiting dignitaries could be arranged at Kushinagar at Nicco Hotel, on request. The Buddha attained nirvana at a place very close to the Banyan tree. The teachings of Buddha spread to the farthest corner of India and the world from this part of the country. Jagritis motto of building India through enterprise, we believe has the potential to become a similar nation wide movement that can solve a number of the countrys ills. This conclave will try to think of the future direction of the nation, middle India, its youth, and Udyam-Janit-Vikas particularly in the context of Deoria. Jagriti believes in oilpatch development: like a drop of oil that spreads on the paper it is placed on.

Deoria is the home district of Jagriti, a small town in Eastern Uttar Pradesh adjoining Bihar. It is first of four districts adopted by Jagriti in the four corners of the country the other being Karjat in Maharahstra, Madurai in Tamil Nadu and Ganjam in Odisha. Jagriti has been imparting skill based training to youth and women in the district since 2001, and is now looking to have a more comprehensive development model based on enterprise mindset.

Barh or Banyan is the national tree of India. The Banyan Tree, Jagritis symbol is also the national tree of India. It gets its name from the fact that Baniyas (trading classes) would stop under its shade to trade goods and create enterprises. It is therefore appropriate that our movement of enterprise led development also starts from here. Ficus Bengalensis
