Attention Undergraduate Students from All Majors

Apply to the Undergraduate Student-Faculty Research Program!


Concept and Timeframe: Students and faculty with similar interests will work together on a research project from September, 2013 to April, 2014. Students can either seek out a professor who is already planning to carry out research or potentially be paired with one. A small stipend will be offered to each student participant. This is the perfect opportunity to: Gain more knowledge and a deeper appreciation for your academic field Work closely with a professor while gaining hands-on experience Strengthen your research, critical thinking, analytical and writing skills Build your resume Recognition: An end of year showcase will recognize all research initiatives through formal presentations and poster sessions. Several award-winning pairs will be selected and will receive some funding toward a conference appropriate to their research experience.

2013-2014 Undergraduate Research Program: Frequently Asked Questions for Students


Below are some frequently asked questions (and answers!) regarding the Undergraduate Student-Faculty Program.

Q: Who is eligible for the program? A: All undergraduates from every major who will be enrolled at Pace through (or beyond) May 2014 are eligible. Students should ideally have a 3.0 QPA or above. Q: What are the program requirements throughout the year for those who have been selected? A: The program requirements are as follows: Work with the faculty member on the research from September through late April, averaging about 4 hours per week (though it varies depending on the project) Write a total of 4 blogs throughout the year Attend 4-5 research enrichment seminars to be held throughout the year Prepare mid-year and end-of-year reports on research Present at end of year research showcase (on each campus) to present findings. The two top pairs (one from each campus) will be selected by a team of faculty and administrators. The winning pair will receive up to $2000 toward a conference in their field of research. Where appropriate, present research at a relevant conference or submit findings to Paces Digital Commons or another venue for publication

Q: Do I have to have someone in mind to partner with before applying? A: No, you do not! Students and faculty can apply with or without a partner. If a partner is not identified and the application is accepted, the Research Committee will pair students and faculty together based on interests, research topic and major. Q: Is there a stipend? A: Yes, there is a stipend of $500 for students, which can be used for yourself, supplies, or other related research expenses. The stipend is paid in two installments, one in the fall and one in the spring. Q: How many hours a week will I be expected to devote to the project? A: The number of hours varies according to the project and professor you are working with. On average it is approximately 4 hours per week. Q: How do I apply?
