Denons History
Denons heritage extends back to the dawn of music reproduction. Founded in 1910, Denon was both the first record company in Japan and the first audio company in Japan. Denon is one of the few companies that can trace its ancestry to both Columbia (CBS) and Deutsch Gramophone. It was the Deutsch Gramophone group that founded Denons parent company as Japan Gramophone, in 1910. Under the brand name Nipponophone, we became Japans first record label and produced Japans first record player. In 1927, Japan Gramophone was purchased by Columbia Gramophone Ltd, and given its then name, Nippon Columbia. The company continued to serve the Far East market with records and players, and began to branch out into radio broadcast equipment. An important early product was the worlds first electric direct drive turntable, in 1939. In 1951, Nippon Columbia developed the worlds first stereo moving-coil cartridge. As home audio began to grow, Nippon Columbia decided to create a new brand of consumer and pro audio products. In 1963, they adopted the brand name "DENON" which was used by professional products since 1938, This year also heralded the commencement of sales of the DL-103 phone cartridge, one of the longest running products in audio history. Still used by broadcasters and audiophiles today, it spawned the development of a series of outstanding MC cartridges. In 1971 Denon commenced sales of hi-fi audio components, including turntables, amplifiers, tuners and loudspeakers. 1972 saw the development of the worlds first PCM digital recorder for regular studio recording use, thus launching the digital audio revolution. Commenced sales of PCM records. 2010 will see Denon celebrate 100 years of manufacturing quality audio products. Unlike any other manufacturer of consumer electronics Denon have been involved of every aspect of audio, including operating their own recording studios, their own recording label, manufacturing recording studio equipment, manufacturing the software itself and finally the consumer electronics hardware to play it back in consumers homes. This involvement in every aspect of the audio chain places Denon in a unique position when it comes to quality audio playback.

This Denon AV receiver provides the ultimate in convenience by accepting all types of video signals from any source and converting them all to one convenient HDMI signal.
This allows you to connect a composite video, S-Video and component video signals to your Denon AVR and all these signals will be converted to a single HDMI output that has been adjusted from a Standard Definition (interlaced) signal to a High Definition compatible (Progressive) signal.
This means that with this great feature you will only need to select one AV input on your television and your Denon AV receiver will not only switch the sound going to your speakers but will also switch the picture going to your new High Definition flat screen television or projector.

The ABT1030 is Anchor Bays latest addition to the Video Reference Series (VRS) family of video processing chips. It is ideally suited for standard definition de-interlacing and scaling applications. The ABT1030 will convert all Standard and High definition signals to a progressive signal and allow the resolution to be up-scaled up to 1080p depending on your television. This is a very important convenience and performance feature in a modern Home Theatre installation because most of the program material watched is not native 1080p (except Blu-ray), in fact the most common video source is actually watching television, either free to air, both SD and HDTV or a pay TV service. The ABT1030 allows you to watch any analogue or HDMI video source through the HDMI V1.4a output as a 1080p, Deep Colour 36 quality picture. General Features
PReP Progressive ReProcessing Standard Definition Precision Motion Adaptive De-interlacing Precision 10bit Video Scaling for up-conversion to 1080p Pass-through mode for all formats CEA-861D compliant timing HDMI 1.4a Deep Colour with 12bit output xvColour broader colour space support

Audyssey MultEQ is a revolutionary process that uses a microphone (supplied with all
Denon AV receivers) to measure the exact room acoustics pattern of your room and make individual equalization adjustments to each speaker so that the end result is a Home Theatre system that is acoustically matched to your living environment.
Audyssey Dynamic Volume uses the latest digital technology to make continual volume
adjustments based on your room acoustics to level the volume of all sources and programs.
Audyssey Dynamic EQ will deliver amazing surround sound effects as the director
intended at any volume level, from a roar to a whisper, Home Theatre at its best.

Denon AV receivers include the new Dolby Pro Logic IIz surround processors which creates 2 new audio channels called height channels. These new channels are positioned across the front of your theatre above the main left and right speakers. The extra sound dimension this creates in your home theatre is quite amazing and creates a 3D approach to sound to compliment the new 3D televisions

AL24 Processing
Denon have been at the forefront of Digital audio since its inception. Denon engineers developed the first practical PCM recorder in 1972. The benefits of digital audio are numerous but Denon have always been concerned with noise which is caused by the 16bit / 44.1kHz quantization of PCM
Denon were determined to tackle the problem of quantization noise that remained in digital audio, and developed: ALPHA (adaptive line pattern harmonised algorithm), Alpha is a technology that reproduced 16-bit data with 20-bit quality and it soon became a favourite with audiophiles around the world. This revolutionary technology for improving PCM playback has been a cornerstone to Denons philosophy on Audio quality Denons ALPHA technologies have been under constant redevelopment and today AL24 processing reproduces 16bit data at 24bit quality and AL24 Processing Plus supports 192kHz sampling frequencies.

Jitter Reducer
What is Jitter?
During the packet processing of a digital audio stream digital jitter is introduced, it lowers dynamic range and increases distortion
Since the inception of digital audio, engineers have continually struggled to counter the effects of digital jitter on audio quality. Denons Audio engineers have developed a new process called Jitter reducer which provides a dramatic reduction in digital jitter with very significant improvements in dynamic range and reduction in distortion levels. The process is automatic and works on all digital inputs such as coaxial, optical, USB and HDMI and even analogue signals that are converted to digital internally.

Tech Tip
Typically when an MP3/AAC encoder compresses a song the first casualty are the harmonics. Music is not made up of single frequencies but is rather a combination of harmonics created by the instruments being played. Some instruments can have as many as 20 or 30 harmonics for each note played. To keep the files sizes on your iPod smaller these harmonics are sacrificed to make space. Denons Compressed Audio Restorer does not just add some high frequencies to give the perception of a better sound it actually analyses the compressed music and RESTORES the missing harmonics therefore delivering a more natural and sonically superior rendition of the original song

Pure direct mode allows listeners to enjoy pure music of remarkably high quality. When Pure Direct is selected, power to the video circuitry and the fluorescent display is turned off. During analogue sound input, power to the digital circuitry is also turned off. Adverse influences from other circuits on the audio circuitry are suppressed to the maximum extent possible. Pure Direct mode makes sure your Denon AV Receiver is just as capable when used as a Hi-Fi amplifier.

All Denon Audio Video (AV) receivers use completely Discrete Output Power transistors for each channel to deliver true Hi-Fi performance sound quality from all their AV receivers. This design guarantees that the sound quality and dynamics is the same for each channel all the time regardless of what might be happening in another channel. As an example centre channel performance is maintained even if an explosion is happening in the left hand channels. It is quite common for some competitors AV Receivers to use an IC based power output stage which is very cost effective and can generate lots of volumes but with bad dynamics and increased distortion. Even the entry point AV receiver from Denon use Discrete Output Power transistors on all channels.
