M A T E R I A L S: Approx. 117 grams Noro Silk Garden Sock yarn (col 269), 13 grams CC1, malabrigo sock (col.

. light of love), and 9 grams CC2, Koigu KPM (col. 2100). Note: Malabrigo sock was held double for the heel flap. This was done mainly because Silk Garden sock is a much thicker yarn, as well as to ensure a durable heel flap. If you choose to use a different yarn, you may want to knit with a single strand and will need less yardage than the requirement given above. 2.5 mm 80 cm circular needle OR 2.5 mm DPN darning needle G A U G E: 31 st and 48 rows over 4 inches in stocking stitch on 2.5 mm needle. M E T H O D: cuff: CO 76 sts and join for working in the round, being careful not to twist. *K1tbl, P1. Rep from * for entire round, forming 1x1 twisted rib pattern. Continue in twisted rib for 2.25 inches, 5.5 cm. (or desired cuff length) leg: Change to stocking stitch and continue knitting for 8.5 inches, 21.25 cm.

decrease round 1: *K 7, K2tog, K 8, K2 tog. Repeat from * for entire round. (8 stitches decreased) work 3 rounds even decrease round 2: *K6, K2tog, K7, K2 tog. Repeat from * for entire round. (8 stitches decreased. 60 remaining) heel flap: (RS) In CC 1, Sl 1, K1 over first 30 sts in round. Turn. next row: (WS) Sl 1, purl 29. rep last 2 rows until total 36 rows have been worked. turn heel: row 1: K18 sts, ssk, K1, turn. row 2: Sl 1, P 7, P2tog, P1, turn. row 3: Sl 1, K to 1 st before gap, ssk, K1, turn. row 4: Sl 1, P to 1 st before gap, P2tog, P1, turn. repeat rows 3 and 4 until all sts outside of gaps have been worked. 18 sts remain. gusset: In MC knit all 18 remaining sts in heel flap.

Rejoin for working in the round as follows: Continuing in MC, *pick up and knit 19 sts along right side heel flap. K across all instep sts. Pick up and knit 19 sts on left side heel flap. K 9 sts and rearrange sts on needles to indicate this point as new beg of round. Total sts in round - 9 (half of heel sts) +19 (gusset) 30 (instep) + 19 (gusset) + 9 (half of heel) = 86 sts. Note: I prefer to use the magic loop method of working in the round for socks. When working gusset decreases, I divide my stitches so that the instep stitches (30 sts) remain alone on one half of my needle, while the heel and gusset stitches (56 sts) are on the other half. This way I know exactly where my decreases will be. If using DPNs, I divide the heel and gusset stitches evenly over 2 needles, and keep the instep stitches on 1. If using DPNs your sts will be divided as follows: needle 1, 28, needle 2, 30, needle 3, 28. For simplicity sake, instructions will be provided for DPNs, as they are very easily converted to magic loop.
