PBIS(PositiveBehaviorInterventionsandSupports)isaschoolwide,proactive approach,whichemphasizestheinstructionofsocialskills,databaseddecision making,andthepreventionofproblematicbehavior.Whilefosteringpositive behaviorsandinteractions,PBISalsoimprovesacademicperformance. ThemostimportantpartofPBISisteachingexpectedbehaviors.Thisis accomplishedbyutilizingaschoolwidematrixofbehaviors,whichencompasses thethreemainexpectationsofWestfieldorourWildcatWays(BeSafe,Be Respectful,andBeResponsible).Throughouttheyear,studentsarealsotaught specificbehavioralexpectationsthroughtheuseof"CoolTools". CoolToolsarelessonplansthatstructurehowthestaffteachestheexpected behaviorsfromourschoolwidebehaviormatrix.Theyaretaughtusingexamples takenfromclassroomandnonclassroomsettingsandsituations.Staffmembers modelandroleplayinordertoteachnewskillsandreinforceexpectedbehaviors. ThroughouttheyearwedecidewhichadditionalCoolToolstoteachbasedondata wehavegatheredandfeedbackfromstaffmembers.
