6.DESIGN AND ANALYSIS OF A LOW COST AND EASY OPERATED LEG MECHANISM FOR A WALKING ROBOT
Mobile robots are increasingly being used in difficult situations, such as the inspection of the inner layer of atomic power stations, environment inspections, home servicing, forestry and agriculture, planetary explorations and the exploration of nonaccessible terrain like volcano craters. Either walking or wheeled mobile robots can be used to perform the above-mentioned applications. Compared to wheeled vehicles walking machines show the advantage that they can act in highly unstructured terrain without having prepared this terrain in advance by streets or rails. Legged robots cross obstacles more easily; depend less on the surface conditions and quality and, in general, exhibit better adaptability. A number of different mechanism structures of legs have been used for the walking. The most used mechanism shows the pantograph architectures as main Kinematics chain for a leg. In this project work study of feasibility for a fully rotating actuation of the pantographleg has been carried out. In particular, a suitable model of the leg kinematics analysis and design are presented for a 1-DOF (Degree-of-Freedom) pantograph-leg for walking machines. A parametric study has been also carried out in order to investigate the influence of some basic design parameters on its motion capabilities Simulation with Matlab software have been carried out to verify the operation of the
leg. Structural analysis with ANSYS software also has been carried out to check the induced stresses during the operation of the mechanism.
Hence an attempt is made to study the effect of dynamic loading with various angular velocities like 100, 200, 300, 400 and 360 rad/s respectively by using the finite element analysis package such as ANSYS. Life of the gas turbine can be increased by decreasing its resonance effect at critical frequencies. In this project, gas turbine blade model have been studied under Free Free natural frequency condition and with variable speeds. The respective Campbell diagram shows the blade critical frequency, which needs to be reduced below the operating frequencies in order to avoid resonance and to increase the life of the turbine blades.
Competitiveness of the vehicle chassis in terms of ruggedness and maneuverability has also been kept in mind
MAST HEAD
ABSTRACT Steel is the backbone of nations economy bulk material handling plays a vital role in the effective operation of process industries. In Visakhapatnam steel plant is one such shore based process industry operating at 120% of rated capacity of 3.0 MT/annum. Liquid steel and is in the process of expanding its capacity to 6.3 million ton per annum, around 24MT/annum of bulk materials are to be handled in Visakhapatnam steel plant(VSP). VSP is equipped with peripheral unloading yard for the first time in India to unload the bulk materials in plant premises by transporting by locos, to plant wagon pushers of railways. Raw material plant in VSP is having unloading facilities like rotary wagon tripper, storage yard with machines for stacking and reclaiming and distribution belt conveyor system to feed various raw materials to different process plants by proportioning and by sizing. Thus stackers play a critical role in meeting the demand of bulk material. This project deals with the strengthen of MAST HEAD of twin boom stacker by redesigning to avoid frequent failures. The twin boom stacker is used to stack the raw material in two parallel yards depending on the requirement. The reliability of the twin boom stacker is utmost important for stacking the materials in the storage yard for better logistics. The ageing of twin boom stacker with the prolonged operation resulted in uneven loads or jerks on MAST HEAD. This has resulted in frequent failures of MAST HEAD. The design modification has been verified by modeling the MAST HEAD using CATIA P3 V5 R15 and analyzed using FEM package ANSYS. The Necessary stress strengthening has been made based on the preliminary analysis by increasing the

A comparison of paths trajectory of the end-effector is to be plotted. Also variation of torques is to be plotted after considering elastic compensation. These torque variations will be included in the robotic programming for getting the accurate end-effect ors path trajectory.
19.Design of control system for a robot manipulator and analysis of that manipulator
A robotic arm is a robotic manipulator, usually programmable, with similar functions to a human arm. The links of such a manipulator are connected by joints allowing
either rotational motion or translational displacement. The links of the manipulator can be considered to form a kinematic chain. A robot may be designed to perform any desired task such as welding, gripping, spinning etc., depending on the application. For example robot arms in automotive assembly lines perform a variety of tasks such as welding and parts rotation and placement during assembly. Motion control is one of the technological foundations of industrial automation. Putting an object in the correct place with the right amount of force and torque at the right time is essential for efficient manufacturing operation. In the present work modeling of control system for motorized robot arm with a single degree of freedom is done. The results of the control system are also described. The control algorithm was developed by MATLAB software which is widely used in controlling application. In this system the DC motor moves the robot arm to the desired angular position in accordance with the input given. A rotation of 99 degrees is given to the robot arm in a minimum time (.02seconds) by supplying power to the robot arm using a switch. Further the arm will settle down with critical damping to an angle of 90degrees. The FE modal analysis has been performed for the robotic arm to find the natural frequency. Transient analysis is performed to note the displacement, velocity and accelerations during its motion.
24.MODELING AND SIMULATION STUDY OF A FLEXIBLE TWO DEGREE FREEDOM COMPOSITE ROBOTIC ARM
Many robotic applications require fast and precise robot arms. Generally fast maneuverability is achieved by light weight robotic manipulators. However, lighter structures fabricated from conventional metals, tend to be weaker and would undergo large deformations; thus deteriorating the accuracy of the path of end effector of many industrial robots The accuracy of end effector path can be significantly improved by modifying their existing structural design with the focus being on maximizing the stiffness-to-weight ratio of the arms The dynamic response of joint velocities and end effector deflection of a two degreeof-freedom planar composite robot arm is to be developed , the material of links of the arm of the robot are assumed to be fabricated from either aluminum or laminated composite materials in this project. For the purpose of analysis The numerical solution to obtain the joint velocities and end effector deflections of the robot arm is sought in MATLAB Code. The simulation studies examine the interaction between the flexible and the rigid body motions of the robot arm. After numerical investigation, it will be investigated that whether there are advantages of using composites in the structural design of robotic manipulators. It will be studied the composite arms improves in the accuracy end effector path. The composite Robotic arm is also analyzed using Finite Element Analysis software ANSYS.
26.The Study Of Premature Failing Of Close And Open End Helical Springs Used In Railway Coaches
The Indian railways is one of the largest and busiest rail networks in the world transporting over 18 million passengers and more than 2 million tons of freight daily. With more than 1.4 million employees, it is known to be the worlds largest commercial or utility employer.
The springs used in the bogie suspension of railway coaches are compression springs. They are made of an elastic wire material formed into the shape of a helix. They are commonly referred to as a coil spring or a helical spring. They are used to store energy and subsequently release it to absorb shock or to maintain a force between contact surfaces. The spring returns to its natural length or position when unloaded. Springs used in railway coaches have been failing prematurely much before their intended service life. The springs are made with quality materials. Before being put to service, the springs are tested with extensive Non Destructive Testing Methods which are approved by ISO standards to make sure that quality parts are used. However the springs still fail before their service life ends. To study the dynamic behavior of the springs, 3D solid model of helical springs are modeled with PRO/E. Static and Dynamic stress analysis are carried out using ANSYS to understand the Structural and Dynamic response of the springs. Spring behavior will be observed under prescribed or expected loads. Based on the results design modifications will be suggested for better life without failure in service.
27.DESIGN AND ANALYSIS OF AIRCRAFT WHEEL HUB AND DEVELOPMENT OF PROTOTYPE-MODEL BY USING RAPIDPROTOTYPING Abstract
Design work related to the implementation of new aerospace elements requires the use of 3D-CAD modelling techniques and rapid prototyping, which makes it possible to significantly accelerate the deployment of new solutions. In this project, one of the rapid prototyping techniques, FDM is used to produce the working model of Aircraft Wheel hub. Meanwhile the task is to reduce the stress concentration in the Wheel Hub due to body weight of aircraft and other loads on the wheel hub. For design of the wheel hub Catia V5 is used. It is analysed by using the Solid Works. While analysing the stress, stress concentration is found in the fixed regions (location of its bolts). The stress concentration is checked in three ways and selecting the one which gives the optimum stress concentration. The three ways are Design modification, Material changing without design modifications, material changing with design modification. From these three ways we will find out optimum changes in stress concentration. After selecting the best design and converting that 3D-CAD file into STL file or saving file in STL form. That STL file is used for direct developing of prototyping model by using FDM process. The organization of the thesis work is as follows: Chapter-1 Deals with the introduction to the Problem Chapter-2 Deals with the literature review of the design and developing prototype model of Wheel hub by using Rapid Prototyping. And modelling softwares. Chapter-3 Deals with the methodology of the work. Chapter-4 Deals with design and analysis of the wheel hub. Chapter 5 Deals with results and discussion. Chapter 6 Final chapter discussed about the conclusions

ABSTRACT
Steam Turbines play a vital role in power generation as a prime mover which converts kinetic energy of steam into mechanical energy. The turbine normally consists of several stages with each stage consisting of a stationary blade and a rotating blade. Many of the utility steam turbines are of three cylinder constructions, followed by first the High Pressure (HP), Intermediate Pressure (IP) and last Low Pressure (LP) stage respectively, where high, intermediate and low describe the pressure of the steam. The Steam that comes out of the boiler passes through the HP stage, it is returned to the boiler to be re-heated to its original temperature although the pressure remains greatly reduced. The reheated steam then passes through the IP stage and finally to the LP stage of the turbine. A typical Intermediate Pressure cylinder module (8-12 stages) is chosen to carryout the project work. The flow in a Turbine blade passage is complex and involves understanding of energy conversion in three dimensional geometries. Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) probably plays a greater part in the analysis of the fluid flow than it does in any other engineering applications. For many years the design of modern turbines or compressors has been unthinkable without the help of CFD and this dependence has increased as most of the flow becomes amenable to numerical prediction. The benefits of CFD range from shorter design cycles to better performance, reduced costs and weight. The objective of the project is to carry out the CFD analysis of a typical utility steam turbine IP module considering the hub/shroud sealing between the stages. To achieve the above objectives we need to model separately the bladed region and attach the hub/shroud seal region to it by General Grid Interface (GGI). IDEAS software is used for geometric modeling, CFX TURBO-GRID software is used for meshing the bladed region, ICEM-CFD software is used for meshing the hub/shroud region of the seals and CFX Software is used for physics definition, solving and analyzing the problem. Analysis has been carried out for all the 8-12 individual stages and subsequently for the combined 8-12 stages. The results are compared and found to be in close comparison with two dimensional (2D) experimental calculations.

In this ultra-modern world, manufacturing process plays an important role. Press working is one such basic manufacturing process which touches most applications. Though there are wide varieties of metal operations, press working plays an important role because it is free from chip formation. Another advantage in press working is that there is flexibility in changing the press tools easily. Press working is used for sheet metal operations. The two types of press working operations are metal forming and metal cutting. In cutting operations, the work-piece is stressed beyond its ultimate strength. The stress caused in the metal by the applied forces will be shearing stresses. In the forming operations, the stresses are below the ultimate strength of the metal. The project mainly deals with basic operations of press working, piercing and Blanking. The tool is drafted to produce the product in a particular profile shape with above operations. We have made the 2D drawing by CATIA we have created 3D model in CATIA corresponding to the two dimensional drawing by incorporating main parts to get the clear idea of operation taking place. The modeled part is then analyzed for its static analysis in Ansys and the feasibility of the project is investigated. 31.Experimental & Analytical Studies on Internally Augmented Oil Cooler This project is taken up experimentally generate performance data of an existing model oil cooler, applying tube side heat transfer enhancement devices. Generally tube side heat transfer enhancement is essential for heat exchangers where the shell side fluid is air and tube side medium is oil. This type of heat exchanger is known as air blast oil cooler. These types of coolers are preferred for out door installation and places where availability of cooling water is scarce. As the flow through tubes is in laminar region without enhancement device, the overall heat transfer coefficient is very low thus necessitating huge heat exchanger occupying more space. In order to reduce the size of the heat exchanger and space, usage of turbulent promoters inside the tube is essential by enhancing the overall heat transfer coefficient. In the present work focus is made on the tube side heat transfer enhancement. Hence instead of air, water as been used as shell inside fluid which acts as cold fluid. Available test setup has been used. Experiments were conducted for several variants of wire loop geometry such as 300,400,500,600 wire loops/meter of single spiral and 750 wire loops / meter of double spiral type. To obtain the enhancement ratio of heat transfer coefficients with respect to that of plain tube, experiments were also conducted on the model cooler without inserts (i.e., plain tube only).,
32. ANALYSIS & DESIGN OF BOILER MAINTENANCE ANDEFFICIENCY
EVALUATION
Thermal power plants are major area for the generation of power. In thermal power plants coal is used as fuel for power generation .due to continuous increase in power requirements both in domestic and industrial sectors it is necessary to increase 11
in generation of power. Heat liberated by burning of coal in boilers is used for steam generation. Efficiency of the thermal power plant is mainly depends up on thermal efficiency of boiler. Which is defined as percentage of heat recovered from total heat generated by burning of coal? Efficiency of the boiler is influenced by the some losses, which are to be reduced to increase the efficiency of the boiler. As our project works deals with how to reduce the losses which influence the boiler efficiency and also how to improve the efficiency of the boiler by reducing the unburnt gasses and also reduce the flue gas temperature. In this project we analysis the boiler maintenance to increase the plant efficiency. By the detail analysis we suggest that to replace the coal mill &PA fan to reach the peak plant efficiency. 33.COMPUTER AIDED DESIGN AND ANALYSIS OF RING STIFFENED FRP CYLINDRICAL SHELL FOR UNDERWATER APPLICATIONS
The present thesis deals with the design and analysis of ring stiffened cylindrical shell. The shell is to be designed with four materials individually. (1 isotropic, 3 orthotropic) .Three orthotropic materials chosen for this shell which are having high strength, high stiffness with minimum weight and good corrosion resistance are compared with isotropic results. This shell will be used for accommodating the electronic systems and devices required for controlling and guiding for the underwater applications. It will be subjected to external hydrostatic pressure depending upon its depth of operation during its functioning. In this project the design and analysis of the shell for underwater applications is carried out using analytical techniques and ANSYS Finite Element Analysis. The design and analysis of the shell is mainly focused to obtain stresses, deflections and buckling load factors for the underwater applications is subjected to external hydrostatic pressure. The comparison will be made between the Analytical and F.E.A. techniques. 34. DESIGN AND ANALYSIS OF 4-STROKE S.I. ENGINE PISTON
The project DESIGN AND ANALYSIS OF 4-STROKE S.I. ENGINE PISTON is about designing the piston according to the forces acting on it from the gases, which are released during the combustion. The piston head acts as a particular case and hence the piston is analyzed for the stresses developed due to the conditions. At first, the piston is designed according to the specifications. After the designing, the model is subjected to certain conditions. According to the conditions we have checked the stresses acting on it and checked the failures of the model. After the analyzing the changes are done to the model if required. In the analysis a model of piston is generated using Pro/E. the finite element model of the piston is generated using Ansys. It is applied with loads and boundary conditions. Thus solved for the engine response.
