The Local Government Act encourages communities to come up with a Growth Strategy. Its purpose is to promote human settlement that is socially, economically & environmentally healthy and that makes efficient use of public facilities & services, land & other resources. However, these strategies can be some of the most politicized documents. Earlier this summer, TnRD initiated a minor amendment to its Regional Growth Strategy, which is a co-operative strategy for achieving a sustainable future for the region. The document, A Context for Change Management in the ThompsonNicola Regional District, looks at historic data and forecasts future trends in population, housing, and economic change in the TnRD over the next 25 years. The growth projections are what initiated this series. And with this piqued interest, well take a look at Merritts Integrated Growth Strategy, to compare growth forecasts, which inform everything from how a region or community will justify expenditures on infrastructure to acquiring land for future growth. According to some, Merritt finds itself once again on the cusp of taking off, thanks to the hydro upgrade that will be complete next year. Well look at grown projection, city planning & the promise of the future.

Canadian Country Music Heritage Society AgM

Conayt Friendship Society's Spirit of the Youth program is now open Mon-Fri 5-10pm, at the old CMS gym. Anyone 1024 years of age is welcome to come!! They are focusing on job readiness, but also cultural awareness and connections. There will be an open house on Mon. Aug. 19, CMS gym, open to anybody and everybody, a chance to check them out.

CCMHS is holding its inaugeral annual meeting on Wed., Aug. 21, 7pm at the Hall of Fame. The CCMHS operates the Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame in downtown Merritt on behalf of the Canadian Country Music Association. The mandate of the society is to encourage an understanding and appreciation of the roots of Canadian country music, develop both a community and regional tourism product that builds upon the City's brand as the Country Music Capital of Canada, and secure economic benefits for local and regional businesses through this visitor attraction.
