DBP Blower Purge Desiccant Dryers

Compressed air is polluted with dirt particles, water, oil, oil vapor and condensate. These contaminants result in high maintenance costs, premature wear, spoiled products and the failure of control systems. A domnick hunter series DBP Classic dryer will effectively remove these contaminants. The traditional adsorption principle used in this design is simple, robust and flexible using compressed air for regeneration therefore eliminating any need for an outside energy supply. High levels of reliability are achieved by the use of proven engineering technology and components. The use of dry air cooling will ensure a constant -40F (-40C) pressure dewpoint during the entire drying cycle. Other dewpoints available upon request.

Dewpoint dependent switching (DDS)

Regeneration air requirements are dependent upon flow, pressure and temperature. Compressed air systems are rarely constant and all three factors change according to the time of day, ambient temperature and relative humidity. This can result in the constant regeneration flow of compressed air being used inefficiently. Dewpoint Dependent Switching (DDS) reduces operating costs by measuring the outlet dewpoint and allowing initiation of the regeneration purge cycle only if necessary. As long as outlet dewpoint is better than required, the purge exhaust valves will remain closed and no dry air loss will occur.

How Classic DBP dryers work

The compressed air is passed through an OIL-X EVOLUTION high-efficiency inlet filter which removes solid and liquid particles down to a size of 0.01 micron/0.01 ppm. An automatic drain valve removes the bulk liquid. After being filtered, the compressed air (which is typically 100% saturated), is directed by an inlet switching valve into one of the towers which is filled with a moisture adsorbent desiccant material. To ensure even distribution through the tower, the desiccant is supported by a self cleaning stainless steel support screen. The compressed air adsorption drying cycle is performed in a downflow process. During the drying phase, the moisture in the compressed air is adsorbed by the desiccant material. Dried, clean air is then directed through a check valve at the dryer outlet and through an OIL-X EVOLUTION dust filter into the plant distribution system. As tower A is drying the compressed air, tower B is being regenerated. The regeneration flow is counter-current to drying. During the regeneration of tower B, air is drawn in from the environment of the dryer and delivered by a blower to externally mounted heater (electric or steam). This heated air enters the wet desiccant bed, strips the adsorbed moisture from the desiccant and is then exhausted through the purge exhaust valve into the atmosphere. Energy efficient regeneration is provided using a temperature controlled regeneration process for the heating cycle is terminated when the proper regeneration temperature has been reached, as detected by a temperature sensor located at the regeneration exhaust. Immediately following the heating cycle termination, the cooling of the desiccant bed is achieved by flowing a small portion of dry compressed air from the repressurizing valve manifold across the heated desiccant bed until the desiccant bed has been cooled. For maximum efficiency the cooling cycle is terminated on the basis of temperature.
