Security Institute Diploma in Security Management (BTEC Level 5)


(1 year Distance Learning Course) (1,630 +VAT) Why this course? This course is designed for those persons who have experience of Security Management and now seek to achieve professional recognition and an accredited qualification within the security industry at middle and senior management levels. BTEC Level 5 (awarded by Edexcel) is equivalent to a UK Foundation Degree. The Diploma is an internationally recognised qualification and is the flagship qualification of the Security Institute (SyI). The Diploma leads to full Membership of the Institute and entitlement to use the letters MSyI after your name (subject to application and validation). The Diploma is the most senior qualification offered by the SyI and offers the security professional the chance to enhance their skills and improve their career progression. Learning Objectives UNIT 1: UNIT 2: Understanding Threats to Security Security
Understand the role of security managers and the purpose of security management Understand the principles of security Understand how the level of security measures must be balanced with the level of the threat Know how to carry out disaster planning Know how to manage disasters and post-incident recovery Understand the threat of terrorism in the UK and measures to counter terrorist action

UNIT 3: UNIT 4: Risk The Legal System Management


Know how to identify and appraise risks Understand the principles of insuring risks Understand psychological and cultural approaches to risk management Understand the importance of employment law for security management Understand employment law and the legislation and regulation of industrial disputes Understand the implications of employment law for security management

UNIT 5: Management

Understand the theory of management in relation to security management Understand why management skills are important to security managers Be able to identify the skills required by a security manager to carry out their job effectively

Assessment method:
10 x 1,500 word assignments (2 per module)

Eligibility:
5 years security management experience (years service in the armed forces is eligible as evidence for eligibility) or successful completion of the SyI Certificate in Security Management.
