Warhawk Band Boosters Golf Outing set for Aug. 26

The Germantown High School Warhawk Band Boosters will host its 11th Annual Golf Outing on Monday, Aug. 26, at Scenic View Country Club, 4415 Club Drive, Slinger. Sign-in for the popular community event begins at 10 a.m., with a shotgun start following at 11 a.m. Golfers of all ability levels will play 18 holes in a scramble format and enjoy lunch during their round. At 4:30 p.m., participants will gather at the clubhouse for dinner, an awards presentation, raffles, and a performance by the Germantown High School Wall of Sound marching band. Golf, lunch, dinner, drink tickets and entertainment are included in the $80 fee; however, an option to attend the evening dinner and entertainment portion only is available for $25. The registration deadline is Aug. 12. The event is one of the organization's primary fundraising activities, garnering much of the financial support needed to run the high school's band programs for the upcoming year. Funds raised are used to purchase uniforms, equipment, instruments and lockers, as well as provide student musician scholarships to band and leadership camps. Schauer Center hosts landscape artists in summer exhibit

The artwork of two local artistsover 40 paintings by John Maki and Patricia Gergetzis now on exhibit in the Suckow Family Gallery at the Schauer Arts & Activities Center in Hartford and will be on display until Sept. 1. Maki works in several media, including watercolor and pen and ink. He enjoys capturing the mood of Midwest rural and urban scenes in vibrant color and detail. A teacher for over 40 years, Maki now devotes his free time to producing art from his studio in Milwaukee. A frequent award winner, he is an active member of local art groups, including the League of Milwaukee Artists and the Wisconsin Watercolor Society. Gergetz, a lifelong artist, specializes in watercolors and acrylic paintings. Nature and outdoor scenes dominate her work. Flower stilllifes are a frequent subject. For many years, she produced home portraits or renderings of houses and businesses for local and national customers. A West Bend resident, Gergetz is a member of the Kettle Moraine Fine Arts Guild. A free reception will be held Friday, Aug. 16, 2013 from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Guests will have an opportunity to meet the artists and view the exhibit. A cash bar and light refreshments will be available. The exhibit will be on display through Sunday, Sept. 1, 2013. The Suckow Family Art Gallery is located on the second level of the Schauer Center at 147 N. Rural Street in downtown Hartford. Heritage Weekend at Lisbon Community Park Aug. 10-11

The Heritage Weekend returns to Lisbon Community Park, N78W26970 Bartlett Parkway, on Aug. 10-11 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. More than 65 re-enactors and more than 25 camps will be on-site representing their historic time period with demonstrations, games and other sights and sounds for an exciting historic adventure. See a live presentation of an American Indian hoop dancer and colonial dancers , witness a Civil War surgical unit re-enact war-time surgeries, enjoy a variety of period music - fife, violin and and visit re-enactment camps, including Romans/Greeks, Western cowboy, World War II, Marines, Civil War, American Indian, Israeli soldiers and more. Stop by and see antique fire engines and cars from varying time periods. There will also be a game between the Lisbon Prairie Dogs and Dead City in a historic baseball game on Saturday. The event is free.

According to Mud, his true love Juniper (Reese Witherspoon) is awaiting his arrival in town, and together they plan to make a daring escape. The movie is rated PG-13 with a run time of 130 minutes. Cardinals win West Division regular season title

The Sussex Cardinals clinched first place in the Land O'Lakes West DIvision regular season standings Aug. 3, as the Cardinals scored five runs in the third inning and two runs each in the fifth and sixth innings to beat the Brookfield Bulldogs 9-1. Travis Thompson recorded five strikeouts in recording the complete game win for Sussex. The Cardinals finished the regular season with a 15-3 record and will begin postseason play with a 1 p.m. Aug. 11 game at Sussex Village Park. The Menomonee Falls Lakers finished fifth in the West Division with a 12-6 record following a 6-5 win at Merton Aug. 5. Menomonee Falls will begin postseason play by playing at West Bend at 1 p.m. Aug. 10. Lannon finished its season with a 8-1 record following a 12-6 loss to the West Bend 7 Up Aug. 4.

Acacia Theatre Company Presents Malcolm and Teresa

A true story juxtaposes two events in BBC Reporter Malcolm Muggeridges life: his expos of the 1930s Soviet socialist oppression and his 60s television interviews with a then-unknown Mother Teresa. Her loving response to those suffering overcomes Malcolms disillusionment and begins his journey of redemption in "Malcolm and Teresa" by Cathal Gallagher. All performances will be given in Concordia University Wisconsins Todd Wehr Auditorium, 12800 North Lake Shore Drive in Mequon, Wis. Engrossing and entertaining, this new play powerfully depicts how one persons faith in action can change the world. Performances will be Friday, Oct. 18 at 8p.m.; Saturday, Oct.19 at 8p.m.; Sunday, Oct. 20 at 3p.m.; Thursday, Oct. 24 at 8p.m.; Friday, Oct. 25 at 8p.m.; Saturday, Oct. 26 at 4p.m. and 8p.m. and Sunday, Oct. 27 at 3p.m.. Easy ways to save energy at home

(StatePoint) Whether you are motivated to help the planet or simply want to slash home energy and water bills, there are easy steps to reduce your homes carbon footprint. "Today more than ever, we see the environmental impact we have on our communities by the choices we make daily -- from the food we eat to the way we run our homes. While its easy to pretend these choices dont matter, its even easier to take steps to live more sustainably and feel good about it," says Brett Beitzel, a brand manager at Amana, a household appliances manufacturer focused on encouraging consumers to reduce their carbon footprints. There are several places in your home where you can take small steps toward a smaller carbon footprint. Kitchen Become more aware of what you put in your shopping basket. Include more locallyand organically-grown and raised produce and meat in your diet. Avoid overly-packaged products and eat sustainably caught or farmed fish. These choices are often healthier, too. You can also make a substantial impact by replacing your old refrigerator with a newer energy-saving model. Compared to pre-2000 models, newer refrigerators can use up to 41 percent less energy. As one of the few appliances that run constantly, that means a lot of energy and cost savings. Luckily, environmentally conscious home appliance manufacturers, such as Amana, are going above the Department of Energys current usage guidelines by making energy efficiency a priority with newer models. You can also find efficient dishwashers that save water and energy. But even with a newer model, youll want to be sure youre only running the machine when full. For maximum savings, look for ENERGY STAR qualified models on all appliances. Garage Cars that don't have properly inflated tires account for a 10 percent increase on fuel costs. Check tire pressure regularly to ensure optimum performance. And tune up your bike so you can use it more often! Unfortunately, the garage is also where many send their old refrigerators to store extra soda. Research shows that 10 million "second" refrigerators cost consumers an average of $1.62 billion yearly in energy costs. For a cool move, make all your refrigerators energy efficient. Laundry Room The way you launder your clothes can impact local waterways. Look for eco-friendly detergents and opt for the concentrated form to reduce plastic consumption. Wash clothes in cold water whenever possible and dont leave them in the dryer longer than necessary. Consider replacing your washer and dryer with newer energy-saving models. Not only may this qualify you for rebates from state or local utility companies, your water savings and energy savings will add up. Front load washing machines are great choices, as conventional top-load washing machines built before 2004 use 81 percent more energy and 77 percent more water than some newer models. Its your planet and you have the power to treat it well, starting at home.

Art in the Park set for Aug. 18 Showing the work of more than 35 artists and including three open art galleries, the Art Guild of Menomonee Falls 7th annual Art in the Park will be held Sunday, Aug. 18, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., The event will take place near Mill Pond, 16500 W. Main Street Menomonee Falls, on the east side of the waterfall. Ballroom Dance for Seniors The Arboretum Retirement Community is offering a program called Ballroom Dance for Seniors with Parkinson Disease, which is part of their Life Long Learning Curriculum. Ballroom dancing is fun and creative and has many positive effects for patients with Parkinsons Disease. Dancing had been shown to help improve balance, mobility, mood and socialization for seniors, especially those with Parkinson Disease. This 9 week class will be taught by Jacqui Lefebvre who is a professional dance instructor with Danceworks. Participants will be asked to stand for periods of time with intermittent breaks. No experience required! Originally from London, England, Jacqui Lefebvre grew up involved in the dance world. Her parents were competitive Ballroom formation dancers. After studying Ballet for seven years, she decided to settle on Latin American and Ballroom. As an amateur, Jacqui danced competitively in Europe for ten years seven of those as part of a Latin American Formation team, winning championships in several European countries. After coming to America in 1994, Jacqui decided to turn professional and teach. Certified in both American and International Styles, Jacqui also teaches Salsa and Merengue, and she was the first instructor to introduce "LaReuda" (Salsa wheel) to Milwaukee in 2001.
