On August the 15th, we have two important celebrations on the same day: Independence Day and the Assumption

of our Blessed Mother. These dual celebrations stir in us once again the fundamental aspiration of every human heart. Through the way of Ahimsa, the Mahatma, the Father of our nation led the country to an experience of Freedom and instilled in us the Spirit of Life and dignity. The Magnificat of Mary articulates the same spirit of Freedom and life, in a deeper way and affirms them from the perspective of God. Mary's Magnificat is a song springing from the depths of human heart. She dreams of a world of love and compassion. A world where the hungry is fed and the needs of the poor and the despised are satisfied. Of course, these dreams of Mahatma and Mary remain unaccomplished, in so many ways to this very day. One of the most poignant moments of the Pope's trip to Rio for World Youth Day was seeing De Brito, a young lad, running to the Pope mobile who brought Pope Francis to tears. The boy broke past barriers to deliver an important message to the Pontiff. Your Holiness, I want to be a priest, a representative of Christ. Pope responded and moved to tears and embracing him, said: As of today, your vocation is set! Mary's song and Gandhi's courage continue to echo in the Human heart, and continue to stair in us the sentiments of genuine hope, true love and a fantastic faith. Fr. Tomy Kanjirathinkal, C.P.

VICE PROVINCE NEWS AND UPDATES

WORLD YOUTH DAY, RIO 2013 The Passionist Gathering prior to the World Youth Day was a celebration of 'unity in diversity', cherishing the Unity as Passionist and enriching the diversity of different countries and culture. It took place th th from 18 to 20 July 2013, in a Passionist Center, at Sao Paulo. Brazilian provincial was the chief program coordinator. About 65 Passionist Religious, mostly young, gathered there representing around 18 countries. Most of them shared their mission and ministry experiences in different countries, especially their services to the youth and children. Three days of sharing's and interactions were a great learning experience, which widen our horizons of Passionist tradition and Charism. There was an opportunity for the group to directly interact with Fr. Joachim Rego CP, Our General Superior and the council, in which lots of doubts and fears of young Passionists were cleared, and hopeful directions and plans were formulated. Father General was excellent If humility is the hallmark of leadership, Father is a brand ambassador for that and all those who participated in this Passionist gathering will vouch for it. He was so much interested and involved. All were pretty impressed with the growth and future of Passionists in India and looking forward to have greater cooperation and collaborations. Importantly, that platform has won for Fr Biju and Bro. Jerson a lot of Passionist friends and widended the umbrella of 'net working'.

FINANCE MANAGEMENT TEAM The FMT had several of their meetings and will be visiting each community very soon, to listen to your needs, plans, and hopes. Please feel free to feed your FMT team with your views, suggestions and dreams and initiate dialogues that would enhance the growth of each community and the Vice Province as a whole. FMT to make appropriate deliberations for the betterment of all concerned. The FMT has subdivided their duties to co-ordinate various financial needs: General Econome - Fr Sony Kannanaikal CP, Future Investments & Projects - Fr Antony Chirammel CP, Formation - Fr James Fernandes CP and Ministry - Bro Jerson Cusher CP. MOVING IN Fr Sony Kannanaikal will be joining the Passionist Retreat House, Jyotir Bhavan, as Retreat Director by 22nd Anugust, 2013. Fr Antony Chirammel CP is completing his ministry at Neyyattinkara Diocese and will be joining the Passionist Retreat House by 29th August, 2013. RELIGIOUS PROFESSION The Holy Cross Province celebrates the First Profession of Antonio Aquino, Glenn Bisquera and Juan Gonzalez on August 18th, 2013. Keep them in our prayers.
