Mechanism of Action Sulbactam is a semisynthetic betalactamase inhibitor which, in combination with ampicillin, extends the antibacterial activity of the latter to include some beta-lactamase-producing strains of bacteria that would otherwise be resistant

Indication For infections caused by susceptible microorganisms: Intraabdominal infections, UTIs, skin and soft tissue infections

Nursing Responsibilities
* Instruct patient to immediately report signs and symptoms of hypersensitivity reaction, such as rash, fever, or chills. * Advise patient to minimize GI upset by eating small, frequent servings of food and drinking plenty of fluids. * Inform patient that drug lowers resistance to certain infections. Instruct him to report new signs or symptoms of infection, especially in mouth or rectum.Tell patient to promptly report unusual bleeding or bruising. *Instruct patient to avoid activities that can cause injury. Advise him to use soft toothbrush and electric razor to avoid gum and skin injury.

*Assess allergies to hydroxyurea, as well as renal or hepatic function *Be aware of precautionary measures of handling such antineoplastic drug(may be carcinogenic) *Instruct patient not to chew, crush, or chew the drug
It has a cytotoxic effect For myelogenous inhibiting an enzyme that leukemia is crucial for DNA synthesis. It takes the place of normal protein thus inhibiting growth of cancer cells.

Nursing Responsibilities *if patient missed a dose, instruct to take dose as soon as possible but not if almost time for next schedule, and then resume his regular dosing schedule *patient should hold suspension in mouth before swallowing, then gargle or swish and swallow *increased irritation of mucous membranes may indicate the need to discontinue medication
