(OR) b) Find the magnitude and direction of the resultant and equilibrant of the concurrent coplanar force system shown in Fig.2.

Fig.2 12. a) Find the support reactions and the forces in the members of the truss shown in Fig.3. Show your answers on a sketch of the structure and clearly show whether the members are in tension or compression.

(OR) b) A screw jack with square threads has a mean diameter of 62.5mm. The pitch of the threads is 12.5mm. The load on the jack revolves with the screw. Coefficient of friction at the screw thread is 0.05. The length of the lever is 300m. Find the tangential force which is applied at its 300mm radius to lift the load of 540N. State whether the jack is selflocking. If it is find the torque necessary to lift the load.

13.

a)

Find the position of the centroid for a homogeneous circular arc of radius R using method of integration

(OR) b) Find the moment of Inertia of the L cross sectional area shown in Fig.4 about the centroidal YY axis.

Fig.4 A particle moves along a straight line such that its acceleration is (4t2-2) m/s2, where t is in seconds. When t = 0, the particle is located to the left of the origin, and when t = 2s, it is 20m to the left of the origin. Determine the position of the particle when t = 4 s.

a)

(OR) b) A block of 25kg mass at rest on a 15 inclined plane is pulled up by a force of 175N acting parallel to the inclined plane. Determine the acceleration of the block, if the coefficient of kinetic friction between the block and the plane is 0.3

a)

The turbine blades of a jet engine have a radius of r=1.2 m. Initially the main shaft has an angular velocity of 3.0 rad/s. If the shaft accelerates at the rate of 2.0 rad/s2, find: 1) Angular velocity after 3 seconds, 2) Number of rotations in 3 seconds, 3) Angular velocity after rotating twice,
4) Acceleration and velocity of A, at t=0.

(OR) b) A block is placed on a disc, which is at rest at a radial distance of 20cm. When the disc begins to rotate at a uniform acceleration of /4 rad/s2, the block is thrown off the disc after 2 seconds. Determine the velocity with which the block is thrown off, the tangential and radial components of acceleration of the block just before it is thrown off.
