NEW CROSSING GUARDS APPROVED Two new crossing guards have been approved in Kanata North.

One will serve St. Gabriels by assisting children crossing the Goulbourn Forced Road at Keyrock and the other will be at Maxwell Bridge and Marconi. City staff have also just approved making the Maxwell Bridge/Marconi intersection a 4 way stop, with installation anticipated prior to the start of school. These additional safety measures make it easier for children to walk to school safely. One item outstanding is a sidewalk along Klondike from March Road to Sandhill. A staff committee is reviewing possible ways to make this route safe for pedestrians. The biggest problem is finding funding for the crossing of Shirleys Brook. Ill let everyone know once I hear City staffs recommendation on the solution and the timing. MLACAK CENTRE ACCESS ROAD With the construction of the library addition a number of changes are being made to the parking and road access. The new parking lot is now in use and part of the road access is built. Concern has been raised about both the 4 way stop and the turn to exit from the Seniors Centre access. I have asked for further information to be provided about the 4 way stop location and will report on that when received. It should be noted that this is a construction site and that there is a tall fence impacting on visibility at that location. When finished the 4 way stop will have stop lines and a clear view, once the fence is removed. In the meantime drivers are urged to take extra care. I will be in touch with the principal of the Earl of March and the police to ensure that student drop offs in the Fall are monitored to ensure that everyone stops at the 4 way stop. MEDICAL MARIHUANA The City of Ottawa is preparing a By-law on Medical Marihuana. In order to provide time for residents and community association members to provide comments on this Zoning By-law Amendment, the deadline for comments has been extended to Friday, September 6, 2013. After this date, draft recommendations will be posted online at http://ottawa.ca/en/cityhall/public-consultations/planning-and-infrastructure/zoning-review-locations-medicalmarihuana. Community associations will be able to review the draft recommendations, including maps of their ward to see where changes are proposed to be made. Comments on the draft recommendations will be welcomed until Monday, September 30, 2013 after which time the recommendations will be finalized within a report to Agriculture and Rural Affairs Committee, Planning Committee, and City Council.
