INHS ASVINI, Mumbai Bags the Best Command Hospital Trophy: Defence Minister gave away the Best Command Hospital Trophy to INHS Asvini, Mumbai and Second Best Command Hospital Trophy jointly to the Command Hospital, Western Command, Chandi Mandir and Command Hospital, Air Force, Bangalore. Krishi Karman Awards 2011-12: President, Shri Pranab Mukherjee presented Krishi Karman Awards to eight States for their achievements in foodgrains production in 2011-12. Krishi Karman Awards were instituted in 2010-11 for recognizing the meritorious efforts of States in foodgrain production. Ten States were given commendation awards. Awards Sates

From the eight awards winning states, for the first time one male and one female farmer were also awarded for their outstanding performance. Malala Yousafzai Honoured with France's Simone de Beauvoir Prize for Women's Freedom: Malala Yousafzai, the schoolgirl from Pakistan shot by Taliban for campaigning girls education, received France's Simone de Beauvoir Prize for Women's Freedom in Paris. Malalas father Ziaudin Yousafzai received the honour on her behalf. The award is accompanied with 2.5 million Rupees honorarium. Golden Globe Awards 2013: Argo Won Best Picture and Best Director Awards: In the prestigious Golden Globe Awards 2013, the hostage-crisis movie Argo thrashed Lincoln to bag best picture as well as best director awards. Les Miserables, on the other hand won the awards in best musical or comedy category with the actors Anne Hathaway and Hugh Jackman winning one trophy each. The award-winning movie Argo is actually inspired by 1979 crisis US diplomats in Iran.

President Pranab Mukherjee honoured 18 States with Krishi Karman Awards: President Pranab Mukherjee presented Krishi Karman awards for 2011-12 to eight states, which includes the state of UP and Bihar for improving the food grain production and commendation awards to 10 other states. Drug Discovery Foundation's 'Young Investigator Scholarship Award' at the 7th Annual Drug Discovery for Neurodegeneration Conference. He has been recognized for his outstanding research on 'naringin' a bioflavonoid found in grape fruits and citrus fruits. 58th Filmfare Awards: At the 58th Idea Filmfare Awards, Barfi film grabbed seven Black Lady awards while, Kahaani bagged five awards. The award for the Best Actor was given to Ranbir Kapoor for his deaf-mute performance in Barfi! Vidya Balan, on the other hand was adjudged as the Best Actress for Kahaani. Barfi was awarded with the Best Film award, while Kahaanis director Sujoy Ghosh won the Black Lady for the Best Director. The lifetime achievement award was given away to Yash Chopra posthumously. National Research Development Corporation award: Scientist of Indian Institute of Science's High Voltage Laboratory, Dr Subba Reddy B, has been awarded the prestigious National Research Development Corporation (NRDC) Meritorious Societal Invention National Award by the Union Ministry of Science & Technology. He won the award for his work on insulators used in high voltage transmission line. His work helped enhance the pollution/contamination flashover strength of ceramic/porcelain insulators used in high voltage transmission lines. There are three types of transmission lines currently used in India - porcelain/ceramic, glass and composite. The latter is a newly introduced phenomenon in the country though it's hugely popular in the West National Communal Harmony Award 2012: The Foundation for Amity & National Solidarity, Delhi has been selected for the National Communal Harmony Award for the year 2012 by the Jury headed by the Vice-President of India. Formed in 1984, the Foundation for Amity & National Solidarity (FANS) is a Delhi based Trust which works for spreading amity and communal harmony. The National Communal Harmony Awards were instituted in 1996 by the National Foundation for Communal Harmony (NFCH), an autonomous organization set up by the Government of India, Ministry of Home Affairs, for promoting communal harmony and national integration. China confers top science award on noted scientist Dr C N R Rao: Noted Indian scientist Dr C N R Rao has been conferred with China's top science award for his important contributions in boosting Sino-India scientific cooperation. Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) gave its 2012 Award for International Scientific Cooperation to three scientists from India, Germany, and Russia. Rao, 79, founder of Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research (JNCASR), Bangalore, shared the 2012 award with Herbert Jaeckle of Germany's Max Planck Society and Russian space physicist G A Zherebtsov. The prize was instituted in 2007. Chhattisgarh MNREGA award for 2nd time: Chhattisgarh has received national award for the second consecutive year for effective implementation of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MNREGA). Kanker district in north Bastar and Gatapara gram panchayat in Rajnandgaon district have been chosen for exemplary performance in implementing MNREGA in 2011-12. Seven districts and 11 gram panchayats in the country have been selected for the award. 108 Padma Award approved the conferment: The President of Union of India approved conferment of 108 Padma Awards. Four people have been conferred with Padma Vibhusan, twenty four are conferred with Padma Bhushan and 80 people would be receiving Padma Shree Awards. Out of all the awardees twenty-four are ladies and 11 people belong to categories like NRIs, PIOs, Foreigners and Posthumous awardees. 1.
