Jerry Hall Family, Missionaries to Brazil Vol> 1, No. 7

May I share v/ith you some most wonderful news received from the Halls. Many of you already have heard so bear with us.
for those -who have not.

Nov. 18th:

"Ever since our marriage we have been anxious to know

if something could be done to help Becky's condition.

was the cause of this condition,

the specialists could ever come to the same conclusion of what

naturalized Brazilian. He was .bpr,n in Canada and lived in New , Tork for awhile. He has licenses to practice in these countries,

Vie made an appointment to visit this doctor In Sao Paulo and he said that-Becky had a mil'd. spastic condition that affected her ...

only from"the waist down.

He recommended an operation, which

would involve the' transferring of certain leg muscles.

Upon returning to Brazilia,we decided that we would consult-with a doctor, who works in the rehabilitation center here,
'Ve have found of late that this one here has one of the mos.t

modern .facilities of any in the world, '.ie consulted two doctors here and each separately came up with; the same diagnosis, but recommended a' lesser op.eration. It would involve the cutting and

lengthening of the tendens in Becky's legs.

If this didn't take

care of the problem, they would recommend the muscle transplant.

The operation was performed two weeks a.go (November 7th) .

here in Brazilia. Becky's problem is not at all uncommon down here, therefore, the doctors hpve had more experience in dealing'::

with it.' Hardly a day.goes by without our seeing the identical problem. The funny thing is that both of :these operations were' developed in the U.S., by U.S. doctors. In fact, many of the Brazilian'doctors go there ,to study.

Becky will be in .casts for another two weeks.

She cannot

walk until they are off. She will then have to have therapy for ' two months. 'Everything so far has-been a great success for -which we surely praise our Heavenly father. The sacrifices we think

we are making turn out not tc^b_^ sacrifices, at all."

My, we do -rejoice with them and truly thank our Patherfor this

them and strengthen them in this time and in their work there.
