- How to get to our lab As you told me that you will be staying at a hotel near the railway station Cornavin, below is a map of the area. Once you get off the train you will exit the train station hopefully from the front. If you do, then you should see a tramway stop in front of you, either

with a glass roof, or C under a railroad bridge. From there you will have to find your hotel. There is nothing behind the train station apart from Hotel Montbrillant, so if youre not staying there you should avoid exiting there.

In order for you to have a safe journey, I have marked the two most danegerous areas around the railway station to avoid. The first, Passage des Grottes is a dark alley with shady people lurking insideso unless you want to get mugged I would suggest you avoid this area. The second, a little park in front of the Eglise Notre-Dame is very nice during the day, but at night is infested with critters such as drug addicts and dealers. Apart from the indicated places, the region is relatively safe and is subject to periodic police rounds. Maybe also avoid going into the underground shopping mall below the railway station, it is called RailCity . Finally, anywhere else you might get asked for some spare change or cigarettes, but nothing worse. (Small anecdote: One day, I was coming back to the train station around midnight, and a conspicuous looking guy asked me if I wanted to buy a carpet) Anyways, to get to the lab: 1) Walk from your hotel to the point B, which is the Coutance bus stop. There you will need to take a bus ticket (take some coins with you, not all machines accept bills and the card readers are mostly broken), typically the Tout Genve ticket. It is valid for an hour, everywhere in Geneva. A daily ticket would be a waste of money since you wont be traveling much within Geneva. Take the trolley bus 19 in the direction of Onex-Cite . Do not take the one going to Jonction (it goes to the bus depot) and especially not the one going to Vernier (that would be the opposite direction). The destination is marked on the panels next to the bus stop, so just search for something that looks just like the one on the right. The buses pass typically every 10 minutes.

From there, at D, just cross the road at the indicated pedestrian crossing at the traffic light, and follow the same direction until you hit a river (dont swim in there, its a muddy river!). The physics building

E is the last building on the right. You can see a

situation map below with the road to follow in blue along with a picture of the physics building. Also, two construction sites are shown on the map, you will see them on your way. 5) Enter through the main entrance and just call or ask for me at the reception, then I will come if Im not there waiting!
