What connections can you make to better understand the text?


Text-to-Self
A connection between the book and your life or experiences.

Text-to-Text
A connection between the book and another book/text you have read.

Text-to-World
A connection between the book and events in the real world.

Text-to-Media
A connection between the book and something you have seen on tv, read on the computer or heard in a song.

Fact and Opinion


F ACT OPINION

An opinion expresses a A fact is a thing that personal belief, judgement, can be proven. feeling, or idea.
It is important to know whether the author is stating a fact, an opinion, or a combination of both, because this may influence your thinking.
-Can this information be proven as true? -What words provide evidence of a fact or an opinion?
-The author gave facts such as _______, _______, and _______. My opinion of this is ________. -This is a (fact/opinion) because (tell keywords/phrases). -This is a(n) __________, because we can/cannot prove _________. -The word ________ is evidence that this is a(n) __________.

The Better Answers Writing Strategy Restate part of the question

This is a great strategy to create a better answer for constructed

response and short answer questions for ALL subjects and grade levels.

Below are transition words that can be used when writing a Better Answer!
