National News
Central Government has launched a placement-oriented skill development scheme, named Roshni. This scheme will target 50000 rural youth in the countrys 24 most Naxalismaffected districts. In Karnataka Legislative Assembly election, Congress won with 121 seats out of 224 seats. Chinese Prime Minister Li Keqiang visited India. India and China signed MoUs covering such area as pharmaceutical, buffalo meat and fisheries. Union Telecom Minister Kapil Sibal and Union Surface Transport Minister C.P. Joshi got additional charge of LAW and Railway portfolio respectively after resigning of Ashwani Kumar and Pawan Bansal. K. Siddaramaih has been appointed as the new Chief Minister of Karnataka by the Governor H.R. Bhardwaj. India got the observer status in the Arctic Council along with that of five other countries China, Italy, Japan, South Korea and Singapore. The Ventral Government revised the guidelines of Indira Awas Yojana (IAY) and made it mandatory to have a toilet for all houses constructed under this scheme. Only 21 percent IAY houses have toilets. The Union Cabinet gave approval for increasing the creamy layer income criterion from Rs. 4.5 lakh to Rs. 6 lakh per annum for OBC. Ms. Arunima Sinha has become Indias first amputee to conquer Mount Everest on a prosthetic leg. Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh lays the foundation stone of the Indian National Defence University which is the countrys first defence university in Gurgaon, Haryana. The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has approved the proposal for the implementation of the National AIDS Control Support Project (NACSP) at a cost of Rs. 2550 crore. Shashi Kant Sharma has been appointed as the Comptroller and Auditor General of India. Maoist attacked on the Congress workers and leaders in the hilly areas of Darbha while returning from Sukma near Raipur in Chhattisgarh. Reserve Bank of India ruled out a ban on sale of gold coins by banks. India and Thailand signed a long awaited extradition treaty. A delegation from the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) has visited India. Indias GDP growth fell to 4.8 percent in the fourth quarter of the 2012-13 financial year. Jagmohan Dalmia has been made in-charge of the Boards working group for looking into day-today affairs after the IPL-6 spot-fixing controversy. India and Australia agreed to hold a joint naval exercise in 2015 to raise their defence cooperation to a higher level.

The Chief Ministers Conference on Internal Security held in New Delhi to set up the National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC). Lt. General (Retd.) Mr. Nirbhay Sharma has been appointed as the Governor of Arunachal Pradesh. Dr. Avinash Chander has been appointed as the Scientific Advisor to the Defence Minister and Director General of DRDO. Premlata Agarwal became the first Indian woman to scale the top peaks of the seven continents which are popularly known as Seven Summits. West Bengal Forest Department has announced that there are 103 tigers at the Sundarban Tiger Reserve. Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) appointed Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi as the chairman of the National Election Campaign Committee.

International News
Mr. Nawaz Sharif took the oath of the office of Prime Minister by the President Asif Ali Zardari. Roberto Azevedo has been named to take the helm of the World Trade Organizer (WTO). USA granted conditional authorization to export domestically produced liquefied natural gas (LNG) to countries including India that dont have a free trade agreement (FTA) with it. The President of Myanmar Mr. Thein Sein became the first leader of his country to visit the White House in nearly half a century. Japanese climber Yuichiro Miura became the worlds oldest person to climb Mount Everest at the age of 80. Cannes International Film Festival celebrated 100 years of Indian cinema with the screening of the movie Bombay Talkies. China has signed a memorandum of understanding with Pakistan on a transport corridor expected to pass through Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (POK) despite of Indias concern. Mr. Srikant Crinivasan has been nominated by US President Mr. Barack Obama to the Federal appeals Court DC Circuit. He became the first-ever South Asian-American to serve as a circuit court judge in the US history. The African Union (AU) summit held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The highest court of Egypt ruled that the countrys Islamist-dominated legislature and constitutional panel were illegally elected. North Korea and South Korea held their first official talks for more than two years. The 1st phase of Sri Lankas northern railway project which is funded by a line of credit facilitated by India has been commissioned.

Sports Updates
Mumbai Indian has won the IPL-6 crown by beating Chennai Super Kings in the final. Rafael Nadal of Spain won the Madrid Masters title 2013. Tiger Woods won the US PGA Tour Players Championship 2013 title. Indian swimmer Sandeep Sejwal has clinched two Gold medals in the 56th Malaysia Open Swimming Championship 2013. Delhi Police Special Cell smashed a spot-fixing racket in the ongoing IPL-6 tournament and arrested Indian pacer S. Sreesanth and two of his teammates from Rajasthan Royals. Suresh Raina became the first Indian batsman to score 4000 runs in T20 cricket. Deepika Kumari won two Silver medals at the World Cup Stage I Archery Champioship in Shanghai, China. India won the Asian team snooker championship title 2013.

Honble President Pranab Kukherjee presented the 47th Jnanpith Award for the year 2011 to Dr. Pratibha Ray for her outstanding contributions to Indian literature. Sharmila Tagore has been honoured with the Srimanta Shankardev Award for the 2008 at a ceremony in Guwahati, Assam. Late Indira Goswami has been posthumously honoured with the Assam Ratna Award. Team India Captain M.S. Dhoni has been presented with the ICC ODI Shield by former ICC President David Morgan in London. Tripurai Sharma has been conferred the Sangeet Natak Academy. Lydia Davis won the Man Booker International Prize 2013. Hindi writers Ramdarash Mishra and Narendra Kohli won the prestigious Vyas Samman for 2011 and 2012 respectively.
