World Evangelism

Taking the gospel to the masses through TV, radio, and literature January/February, 2012 Report
Dear Ones,
What a wonderful and busy period of time! I am so thankful for the opportunities God brings to the days. Often I reect on His promises to the Israelites in Jeremiah 29:11-13: For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the LORD, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope. Then you will call upon Me and go and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. And you will seek Me and nd Me, when you search for Me with all your heart. We do seek Gods blessings in all that we do every day, and His wisdom in the decisions that must be made regarding souls. We remain so deeply grateful that each one of you is supportive of the overseas work, and that God has provided dedicated and talented co-workers in the Barrier family, the Bates, and the Rushmores. Jerry (Bates) was in India for meetings during most of February, for the graduation of preacher students from the training school in Chandigarh (North India), and then went on over to Manipur to meet with brethren and to discuss the printing of The Voice of Truth International in that language. We have recently added Hindi and Nepali editions, and have requests to make it available in French. Currently we print approximately 60,000 copies in six languages. All of us attended the lectures at Freed Hardeman in February, and we were able to have a meeting with about fty people who had expressed interest in helping to develop the proposed Bible class materials, Into Gods World. The Rushmores also participated in the East Tennessee School of Preaching lectures; the Barriers (Wayne and Jeremy), along with Gordon Hogan and Loy Mitchell led the Mission Training Program with the Madison, AL church. I also attended the lectures at the North MacArthur church in Edmond, OK, enjoying the fellowship with Glover and Margie Shipp, with whom I stayed, and taking advantage of opportunities to talk with people about the proposed literature.

One Gideon Is Found!

Knowing the need to have a DVD introducing Into Gods World (which we will send along with the next issue of Global Harvest to between 5,000 and 6,000 addresses, in order to get the word out to much of the church about what we plan to do), and not having found the male leadership that is necessary, I drove to Maxwell, TX, to the World Video Bible School ofces, to make the recording, myself (with the beginning explanation that I am in full agreement with Gods rules that men take the leadership in the church, and that I was only doing the introductory recording because Gideon had not shown up yet). Rudy Cain and others on the staff were helpful in every way, and I am so grateful for all that they have done and are doing to make this happen. A few days after my return home, Rudy called and said, I think I may know Gideon. He told me of Justin and Leah Hopkins, a young couple who had been his students at the Southwest School of Biblical Studies in Austin. Justin called on Tuesday, and they made the 14-hour drive to Winona that week. We talked non-stop about the literature needs, ideas, necessities, every facet, and were in total singleness of mind on every point. We met with our Liberty Elders on Saturday, and I was so encouraged when brother Harold Oswalt looked at Justin and asked, Are you serious about doing this? (Then with an elevated voice he said) Because were DETERMINED to do it! I was so thankful to hear that kind of strong commitment!

Justin preached on Sunday, and met with the elders again afterward. They agreed to serve as his interim sponsor, and to help with support until he can nd his own sponsor and funds. Of course we have remained in close contact since that time, and the Hopkins have been very busy with appointments and preparations to move shortly to the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Please keep Justin and Leah in your prayers. They have stepped out on faith to raise their support, because of their deep conviction that this Bible class curriculum needs to be developed.
Sunday AM I spoke for a congregation in Bryan, TX. I feel like the message was well received. The elders there asked that I send more information. There was also a visitor from east Texas who asked for my contact info so that he could share this with his home congregation. Our meeting with the Southwest elders went alright. They are keeping us and our work in their prayers. They feel that this is an important work, and one that is much needed. They want to be supportive in any way that they can, but at this time they feel that they cant take on any more projects. So, I have reached out to the elders of the Westside congregation. The one who was contacted is very interested. He is going to speak with the other elders and hopes to set a meeting to meet with me in person. The Leakey congregation (comprised of about six families) has committed to support us for $100/ month. There are a few other congregations that I hope to hear back from soon. Well, we are heading to Fort Worth right now. We hope to make it by 7 so we can go to Bible class at Colleyville. We thought we would see if we could talk with the elders of a congregation up there that supported us during school. Sunday we have two appointments in Corpus Christi, Wednesday in Victoria, the following Sunday in Mathis and Odem (two small towns near Beeville. That leaves one more Wednesday to close out the month of March....Justin.

New Delhi, India (Sunny David)

Sunny Davids son-in-law posted new pictures on Facebook of the progress on the church building in New Delhi. They are projecting a completion date sometime in the fall of this year. I have asked that they let me know when in time for me to make the preparations to come over for the ribbon cutting, not that the building is more important to me than the Family, but this is a one-time occasion and I want to use it as a target date for nally going home to India, and also to see loved ones in those numerous other places.
The pictures I am sending herewith show the foundation work being done. By now, as I write, it has been completed and we are now applying to the Municipal Committee for giving us go ahead to build on it after they have inspected that it was carried on as per the building plans. Going good, but will be slow. Maybe some time in 2012 we will get it done, the Lord willing. Sunny

(Francis David)
We are busy with the work here as usual. The Bible correspondence work continues to grow. At my personal level, I had advertised about our magazines and correspondence courses in denominational papers, and that is giving me good response. Our Seekers Course is very much in demand, and we are also sending other Bible courses to the people. The Hindi Bible Teacher is getting very popular among the North Indian people, particularly Chhattisgarh, Punjab, UP, MP, MS, etc. Lot of people send me requests through SMS on my mobile number, so its a pretty good way to spread the Gospel. On my personal level, I have written and printed some tracts in Hindi on some New Testament doctrines, and I think these will be useful to those who are weak in doctrines of the Bible. I will be taking these tracts to Chandigarh for distribution among the preachers. Well, I am so glad to know that you and the church in States are trying to print class-room literature for all ages. Thats a very good thing. I have noticed in your previous communication, and I also agree with you, that so many of our young people are ignorant about the Sound Doctrine that separates the Lords church from the denominational world. And the result is: many are leaving the True New Testament church. I think the need of the hour is to feed our young people with more knowledge of the Bible. Let us hope and pray that more and more young people come forward to defend the truth. Francis Kangayam, Tamil Nadu (Rajanayagam) This is to let you know that we had 4 of our TV contacts from Trichy and 1 magazine reader from Udumalpet, who was a Muslim, named Kaja Mohideen, yesterday for further study of Gods word. We had special study last evening, teaching salvation and church and they stayed overnight here in Kangayam and had another session this morning before worship service. Benny and one other brother assisted in this work. Then, nally, 2 TV contacts, husband and wife and the Muslim man obeyed the Gospel. Please pray for them. The couple asked me to visit their place as early as possible to hold a meeting in their area to preach the Gospel. The Muslim man has no family and he is interested in teaching the truth to other Muslims. We want to use him by visiting his place. We need your special prayers for this. We actually will be going to their place for meetings the same weekend that brother Jerry will be here. We assure you that we make fervent prayers that you nd a very able, capable, dedicted and committed Gideon for the great task as early as possible, and the reason that you mentioned was exactly right. We all have the huge responsibility of protecting the souls of the future generations from the evils of Satan and his agents. Rajanayagam

Batlagundu, Tamil Nadu, India (Arjunan) We had a nice New Year meeting and Sunday Service. A young boy obeyed the Gospel and took baptism on that very rst day. His parents helped him to cut the cake, considered as a new born babys spiritual birth. We were very happy about this and prayed for him. This family has been in the Lords Church for ten years. When brother J.C. asked us to go to Kodaikanal for doing Gods ministry, we went and sowed the seeds there, and met this family. We have been going back alternately every month. This family has been coming to Batlagundu Church but when they cant come here they gather and worship God in their house itself. We utilized the Hindus Festival to preach the Gospel in two districts. First we went to Salem District and there we inaugurated a new house and I preached to the people who gathered for the function, including some TV viewers and readers of our magazine. Afterwards we went to the house of one of our preachers in Namakkal District. Some denominational people were assembled and they heard the New Testament doctrine. Among them, also, were some readers of the magazine and TV viewers. Regarding our outreach, many people are hearing and are asking about the true doctrine. Please pray for Gods ministry here. Arjunan and Glory Madurai, Tamil Nadu, India (Philemon and Kingsly Rajah)

A cyclone in Puducherry did a lot of damage to the local church building, and to 20 of the homes of Christians. Because of the nature of the emergency, our Liberty elders and the brethren who are dispensing funds for recovery work in Japan gave permission for some of the funds originally given for Japan to be used instead to help these brethren with their critical need.
During the rst week of the January, 5 people(one among them is visually challenged) took baptism in Madurai itself. Apart from this, through the JC School students of Orissa, we had some 5 people obeying the Gospel in baptism. New worship and Bible studies have been started and are going well in the areas of Tirumangalam, Virattipathu, Tindivanam, Karur, Choolaimedu and also in Brahmapur. We want to assure the saints helping from USA that every single dollar they sacrice for the mission work in India is worth converting the souls to Christ. Through the television programs on satellite, we have also preachers requesting for telecasting our program in local channels in main cities. Two such responses we received at present: is one from Mumbai, where a preacher called me over the phone after their youth camp and said that he is telecasting to the young people the CD sent by us with our television program, and he requested us to telecast the same regularly in the Tamil speaking area of Dharavi(slum area) in Mumbai. Another reqest was from the preacher of Puducherry where we went and shared the help given by you through World Evangelism. He asked us to telecast the tv program on a local channel in their area since our satellite program does not reach there. Also this is the best time to make the people think about God after they had expereinced the heavy loss by the cyclone. Kindly think of these two areas for telecasting our tv program or at least in Puducherry where people are now having a heart to seek God because of the natural calamity and through which we can get many new contacts. In Puducherry the channel name is HOLY CROSS TV and it may cost us about $45 US to telecast one weekly program. As you know, Puducherrry is a seperate state(Union Territory) like Tamilnadu, and this channel reaches the whole state and also another city called Karaikal. For three months (13 programs) telecast we need $45x13= $585 US. In Puducherry there are about 2.6 lac viewers and in Villupuram and Cuddalore there are about 1 lac viewers. Also, they are telecasting the same program for free, online, through which many Tamil speaking people around the world can watch. Philemon Rajah

Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh, India (Joshua and Ricky Gootam)

Last Sunday we baptized a couple here at church. They travelled about 300 miles to be baptized here. He is an irrigation engineer working on a government project. He and his wife heard us on TV, took the Bible courses from us and decided to obey the Gospel forthwith. They have a four-year-old sweet daughter. Every one here was thrilled to see them obey the Lord. After worshipping with us, they went on their way rejoicing. Last night I preached in a well attended meeting in a far off village. This was arranged by a group of denominational pastors in that area. The meeting was held in a high school playground which was lled with people anxious to hear Gods word. The lesson was well received. Some of our preachers that attended were simply thrilled to see the way the Truth was presented to those 1000s of people. The tracts we printed were distributed to at least 4000 that were in the audience. They all are watching our TV programs. Joshua

Nigeria (Isaac Onyebuchi)

Please read the email sent by brother Isaac concerning the tornado and hail storm that hit his home, the ofce of WBS, and did much further damage throughout the area. The eight-year-old child of one of the Christians was killed. Again, because of the emergency, and because more funds have been given for Japanese recovery than can be well-managed by the Christians there, agreement was made to send money to help brethren in Nigeria. We are thankful that aid was available when the need arose so unexpectedly. There had never been a tornado or a hail storm in that particular area of Nigeria, and people didnt know what was happening.
At about 7:45 AM on Monday, 13th February, I was at the bus stop on my way to gather some Muslims for a teaching appointment scheduled with sister Ruth Orr and brother Ron Pottberg. Suddenly the sky became very misty and cloudy and a heavy wind started blowing. People started running towards the directions of their houses, as if they knew that something terrible was about to happen. For me, I ran back home to see if I could save my family. I hurriedly brought out my wife and children, and as soon as we stepped out, a heavy wind hit the building and others in the neighborhood. The whole roof was blown off and then the entire house was destroyed. I lost everything. I mean everything, including computer, furniture, books, food, clothes, everything. We do not have a place to lay our heads, and nothing to wear or eat. A neighbor is allowing us to sleep on the oor at night. For the love of God and His work, I left my wife and children, for them to see if they could salvage anything, while I proceeded to take the seven Muslims for the studies. To God be the glory, all seven became New Testament Christians through water baptism after

the studies. Not only these seven, but with the combined efforts of brother Pottberg and sister Orr, about 48 persons were baptized in the past two weeks. On Sunday, the 12th of February, about 250 adults were in worship, 90% of whom were former Muslims. Our worship that day was wonderful as the former Muslims were very happy that they are now Christians. We thank you for all of your assistance and request for your prayers in this time of trial. Yangon, Myanmar (Philipbiak Lian)

Last week I had an opportunity to visit Indonesia, Nias Island with brother Bill McDonough and his wife, and I met brother Dennis Cady who is working there. [Note: we have printed brother Cadys account of his work in an interesting book by the name of Go Ye Meant Go Me. BBC] He has many practical works, like keeping the orphans and poor children, opening a dormitory for students, running a tailoring and beauty parlor. That helps the people learn how to help themselves and learn the Truth. I am thinking how I can do more for the Lord in our country. The letter that you forwarded is from Biak Sang, brother Sian Thangs nephew. He is working in the school of Evangelical Baptist Church. I know him very well. I had discussed with him about the Truth many times but his father is a pastor in that church. They accept the four points of Calvinism. They leave Limited Atonement out. Philip

Philippine Relief Effort (Luis Chito Cusi)

As with the emergency situations in India and Nigeria, when the Philippines suffered great damage from an earthquake in February, funds were sent to help with that rescue and recovery effort. Brother Luis Cusi and others on his M.A.R.C.H. team have gone to numerous places in Asia when calamity struck. Their method is to direct aid, rst of all, to Christians, and then to people in general, while supplying teachers and ministers for spiritual aid.
Praise the Lord! I know many brethren will be blessed with your sending $10,000. Will send you a report. Right now, we are organizing the purchase of a hollow block making machine so that we can give brethren hollow blocks and some steel bars as they rebuild their damaged houses. This is a good project because after the machine services the needs of earthquake survivors, the brethren can use it for livelihood generation.

Cagayan de Oro City Flood Relief

There have been 34 precious souls added to the number of the saved since we started relief operations in Cagayan de Oro. As we rejoice with the heavens, we continue to plant seeds of the Gospel in the hearts of all whom our heavenly Father brings to us. It is such a joy and blessing to do all this for His glory! Tent Cities We continue with relief work, giving rice and sardines, hot food, and even soap and toothpaste. There are still a few thousand families who live in tents, waiting for their relocation in permanent settlements. There are also a couple hundred families that are now at the Ecoville Relocation Site. We have put our feet in both the tent cities and in Ecoville. Today, we will be bringing hot food to the 128 families that are at the Mc Arthur Park tent city. The other day we gave them water, rice and sardines. Most important of all, we are giving them hope. Six of them have accepted Christ in the waters of baptism, and they are encouraging others who attend our Bible studies and Sunday assemblies. Our new Christians are also now putting up small business ventures sister Lanie has a small sari-sari store, brother Steve is selling rewood and making portable stoves out of soft drink cans, while another brother, Roy, is selling cold soft drinks at the roadside store beside Lanie.

Negros Quake Relief

The rst thing we did, after assessing the damage to life and property after the Feb. 6 earthquake in Negros was to ensure that food and water would be delivered to our brethren. Funds were sent to reliable partners in Negros for this purpose. On Feb. 15, I went with a small team to deliver more food, tarpaulin tents and water. There were about 700 food packs distributed to all identied brethren in the towns of Ayongon and Tayasan. While there, we surveyed the damage to some church buildings and some houses of brethren. There were other groups from churches in Cebu (Downtown Church of Christ) that responded and went to the town of Jimalalud. It was good that there was no duplication of efforts. We continue to coordinate our efforts to avoid duplication. We have noticed and seen for ourselves how open the people there are to the Gospel. There have also been some key people converted, who are leading others to study Gods word with us. And the word is we need more preachers!!!! Luis Cusi

Far too many things have taken place in these rst two months of 2012 for everything to be mentioned, but I did want to share a few words from brethren with whom we work overseas, and for whom you supply funds for radio/TV and literature. We wanted you to know, too, about the use of funds for emergency recovery work in India, Nigeria, and the Philippines. Please be praying for those who are hurting, there, and throughout the world. And please be praying for the team on this side for all of you who remember the needs in foreign elds, and for those of the team who serve as bridges between you brethren here and those Family members over there. Many negative things are going on in our country and around the world, but good things are happening too, and for that we are thankful to God. We are His eyes to see the needs, His heart to care, and His feet to go. What more could we want than to be coworkers with Him, in the greatest work in the world?

I love you. Betty (J.C.) The Angel of the Lord encamps all around those who fear Him, and delivers them (Psalm 34:7). He does!
P.S. Please be sure to use the blue envelope for sending your contributions, or verify that the address you write is the correct one (Liberty Church of Christ, 689 Highway 25, Dennis, MS 38838). Some, lately, have used the old Liberty church address, causing delay and possible loss.
