The School of Social Sciences was established with a mission of offering internationally recognized and acclaimed undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral study opportunities. Besides training programmes, the School is a rapidly growing centre of excellence in research and community outreach, with its staff members involved in various projects that greatly compliment its academic programmes. The School is currently comprised of five departments: Economics and Development Studies Journalism and Mass Communication Humanities Languages and Psychology In its strategic plan, the School intends to rebrand itself into the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, which will see the establishment of the Department of Economics, Department of Sociology and Anthropology, and the Department of Government and Political Science, among others. The current Department of Humanities will grow to branch into independent departments of Geography and Environmental Studies, Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies, and the Department of History and Cultural Resource Management. The School works in partnership with the Institute of Security Studies, Governance and Ethics in training and research, with a collaborative flagship research project in Resource Use, Conflict and Peace Building. The Bachelor of Pharmacy degree programme offered at Mount Kenya University has been granted pre-accreditaion candidate status by the Pharmacy and Poisons Board, of the Ministry of Medical Services. Bachelor of Pharmacy (B Pharm) degree programme is well designed to provide graduates with core skills and knowledge required for effective participation in the delivery of Pharmaceutical care and the ability to undertake research.
