Background
The National Centre for Combustion Research & Development (NCCRD) has been set up under the auspices of the Combustion InstituteIndian Section (CI-IS) jointly at the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IITM), Chennai, and Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore by the Department of Science & Technology (DST), Government of India. As part of its activities, the NCCRDs mandate is to conduct several series of short term courses on different aspects of combustion, in the form of Summer or Winter Schools. The primary focus is on the application sectors that predominantly involve combustion, viz., automotive, aero propulsion, and thermal power. The Science and Engineering Research Council (SERC) of the DST supports the conduct of these series of Schools. In the first series, three basic courses in the above sectors and two basic courses on combustion diagnostics and computational combustion are planned. This brochure describes the course on COMBUSTION FUNDAMENTALS FOR AEROSPACE PROPULSION. This course is being organized at the Defence Research & Development Laboratory (DRDL), Hyderabad on Thursday-Saturday 19-21 July 2012.

Intended audience
The target audience is young faculty members and senior research scholars from academic institutions of good repute and young professionals from the industry, such as in the defence and space sectors and other private organizations. The academic participants may aim to specialize in combustion fundamentals or applied research related to aerospace propulsion systems. The industry professionals may be engaged in the R&D of combustors for aerospace engines and rocket motors. Such audience is typically the same in all the SERC Schools in the series organized by the NCCRD. The goal is to prepare the participants to involve in combustion research with use of facilities created at the NCCRD by educating them on combustion fundamentals and advances through a series of such courses.
