*Making way- means being propelled through the water by sail, machinery, or oar and making way through the water. A making way vessel has control on her rudder and direction. All making way vessels are underway. Example: Vessel's engine is stopped, but she is still moving through water with the momentum **Underway- means a vessel is NOT at anchor, or made fast to the shore, or aground. An underway vessel may not be making way. Example: Vessel is drifting and moving with current. Note: 1 prolonged blast = 4 to 6 seconds 1 short blast = about 1 second duration

RULE 34: MANOEUVRING AND WARNING SIGNALS VESSEL


Vessel in sight of one another. -Light signal: 1 sec flash, 1 sec interval, 10 sec interval between successive signals. -All round white light, minimum visible range 5m Overtaking vessel. Vessel being overtaken. Vessel in sight of one another. Nearing a bend where other vessel may be obscured by an obstruction.
