Lesson Plan for Integrating Skills Lesson of Unit 8 Senior Book 1 2003

. Procedures Step 1 Lead-in (1 minute) Begin the lesson with a picture of Yao Ming. Ask student whether they know him very Well. Then lead to the topic for this lesson Rationale: This activity is designed to arouse the students interests towards this

famous Chinese player. Step 2 Introduction (2 minutes) 1. Provide some background information about basketball and the important match NBA. 2. Show more pictures about Yao Ming and his club with explanations indeed. This activity is designed to make students get extra knowledge besides the

Step 3 Listening

(4 minutes)

Activity 1 is designed for the students to practice listening and improve their ability to catch the main idea and have the short-time memory for the details. Activities 2 and 3 are designed for the students to practice their oral English,

1. Ask the students to listen to the recording of the test and pay attention to the following two questions: (1) Whats the main idea of this text? (2) What information can we get from it? 2. After listening, make the students form group of four and have a short discussion. 3. Ask several students to answer these two

Step 4 Reading

(10 minutes)

Activity 1 is designed to help the students to read each sentence correctly, also help teacher to find out which part they are not familiar with so as to spend the time properly on the difficult points.

1. Ask each student to read the sentences in the text one by one. After reading one sentence, ask them whether there is anything they do not understand clearly.

2. Explain the import words and phrases with helpful examples.

Activity 2 is designed for the mastery of the new words and expressions.

3. Focus on explaining the hard sentenceYao Ming has more than just size in this text. Show a picture to help the students guess its meaning, and also guide them to guess its meaning according to the context. After the guess, translate the whole sentence both in English and Chinese, and then provide more examples including the useful phrasemore than and make each of its meaning clearly.

Activity 3 is designed to analyze the most difficult sentence in this text, help the students develop the skills that they can use when they encounter new words and phrases. Provide more examples for students to enlarge the use of this phrase.

Step 5 Writing

Activity 1 is designed to activate the students minds and give them opportunity to express their good ideas. Activity 2 is designed to help the students know the important information in

. Self-evaluation: This lesson plan is based on the English competence of Grade 1 students of senior high school. It includes the integrating skills and checkpoint part of the unit: During this lesson, students will have a good comprehension of the reading profile, both by listening to the recording and the text analysis from the teacher. They will get the useful information; learn new words and expressions in this text. After reading, students are guided to think about the sports star of their own. They are required to speak out what aspects of information they can talk about. And the teacher will show some helpful questions for the introduction. Then the homework is designed to develop their writing skills on introducing a sports star, also the teacher will tell the students the methods to revise their paragraphs. Finishing the writing purpose, the short review of grammar and language points is a conclusion of this lesson and preparation for the teaching in the next class. This lesson focuses on the integrating skills. It well connects the reading and writing; helps the students to use what they have learned from the reading in their own writing.
