Pre-Testing and Conguring of the SmartBeam Antenna System

Notices and Precautions

WARRANTY NOTICE
Proper installation procedures must be followed when installing and operating RET equipment. Failure to assure installations are done properly by trained installation personnel and to follow procedures discussed in this bulletin may cause warranty for such products to be void. Andrew requires pretesting actuators on the ground prior to installation using the Andrew portable controller and the latest version of the controller software (available online at www.commscope.com/andrew under ProductsAntennasTeletilt RET System). This will verify proper actuator functionality and also ensure that the latest available actuator rmware release is installed on the actuator. Failure to conduct pre-test and pre-installation procedures dened by Andrew will void warranty.

SAFETY NOTICE
The installation, maintenance, or removal of an antenna requires qualied, experienced personnel. Andrew installation instructions are written for such installation personnel. Antenna systems should be inspected once a year by qualied personnel to verify proper installation, maintenance, and condition of equipment. Andrew disclaims any liability or responsibility for the results of improper or unsafe installation practices. It is recommended that transmit power be turned off when the eld installation is performed. Follow all applicable safety precautions as shown on this page.

Do not install near power lines. Power lines, telephone lines, and guy wires look the same. Assume any wire or line can electrocute you.

Do not install on a wet or windy day or when lightning or thunder is in the area. Do not use metal ladder.

Wear shoes with rubber soles and heels. Wear protective clothing including a long-sleeved shirt and rubber gloves.

GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS It is recommended to turn off the transmit power when working around an installed antenna.
RET connections are weather resistant and must not be weatherproofed.

It is required to connect the SmartBeam antenna system to the controller and to test it ON THE
GROUND before installing the antenna. Register online at www.andrew.com to receive e-mail announcements for software updates.

3.0 Controller Program Startup And Operation

Please download the latest version of the ATC Lite software from www.andrew.com. Refer to Bulletin 639559, ATC200-LITE-USB Teletilt Control System Computer Interface Setup, for installation of the ATC Lite software. 1. Program Startup:

Double-click on the ATC Lite program icon on the computers desk-top. See Figure 3-1. Click on Find Devices. See Figure 3-2.
Figure 3-1. ATC Lite Program Icon.

2. Device Search:

Click on Find Devices.

Pre-Testing and Conguring of the SmartBeam Antenna System

3. Conguring The Actuator: A 1-way SmartBeam antenna, e.g. SBHH-1D6516DS, has one or more integrated tilt actuators. A 2-way SmartBeam antenna, e.g. SBH-2D6516, has integrated tilt and pan actuator devices. A 3-way SmartBeam antenna, e.g. SBH-3DA, has integrated tilt, pan, and fan actuator devices. The actuator serial number will have a corresponding letter of t for electrical tilt, p for pan, and f which designates fan. With the actuator selected, click on Edit Selected (Figure 3-3). To congure the selected device, make the appropriate selections and text entries in the Conguring Device dialog (Figure 3-4).

Select a Tilt Actuator.

Click on Edit Selected.

4. Electrical Tilt Settings:

Electrical tilt actuators are in all SmartBeam antenna systems, the 1-way (e.g. SBHH1D6516DS), the 2-way (e.g. SBH-2D6516), and also in the 3-way (e.g. SBH-3DA). The actuator serial number for tilt actuators has a corresponding letter of t for tilt actuator devices. Selecting the tilt actuator allows modication of the electrical tilt of the SmartBeam antenna system. The tilt actuator of a 3-way antenna is selected in Figure 3-5.

Select a Tilt Actuator. Click on Move Selected.

Figure 3-5. Selecting The Tilt Actuator In A SmartBeam Antenna System.

With the tilt actuator selected, click on Move Selected (Figure 3-5) and move to the minimum and maximum tilt settings: 1. Enter max position and click on Activate. 2. Then enter min position and click on Activate. 3. Verify the movement throughout the actuators full range. See Figure 3-6. 4. Then set to the desired tilt.

Note Min. and Max Tilt.

Set Desired Tilt. Click Activate. Figure 3-6. Adjusting Tilt To Minimum And Maximum Settings.

5. Pan Settings (Azimuth Direction):

Pan actuators are in both the 2-way (e.g. SBH-2D6516) and the 3-way (e.g. SBH-3DA) SmartBeam antenna systems. The actuator serial number has a corresponding letter of p for pan actuator devices. Selecting the pan actuator allows modication of the azimuth direction of the SmartBeam antenna system.

Select a Pan Actuator. Click on Move Selected.

6. Fan Settings (Beamwidth): Fan actuators are only included in 3-way SmartBeam antenna systems, e.g. SBH-3DA. 1-way and 2-way SmartBeam antenna systems like the SBHH-1D6516DS and SBH-2D6516 do not have fan actuator devices. The actuator serial number will have a corresponding letter of f for fan actuator devices. Selecting the fan actuator allows modication of the beamwidth of the SmartBeam antenna system.

Select a Fan Actuator.

Click on Move Selected.

Figure 3-9. Selecting The Fan Actuator In A SmartBeam Antenna System.

With the fan actuator selected, click on Move Selected (Figure 3-9) to adjust to the minimum and maximum fan settings. Verify the movement throughout the actuators full range. Set to the desired fan setting. See Figure 3-10.

Note Min. and Max Fan.

Set Desired Fan. Click Activate.

7. Summary: This concludes the pre-testing of SmartBeam antenna systems. In order to congure the SmartBeam antenna system to the desired position, please follow the same procedure as described above and set the position for all actuators to the desired position. Please contact the Andrew Customer Support Center, (see bottom of cover page), for any questions.
