To be completed by the candidate. This page records initial meeting(s) with your supervisor to agree your project proposal. Your first idea for topic/title

The Impact of education on stress Hypothesis - Workload is the main cause of stress for A-level students
Your first ideas for research and development of your project

I will be looking at the impact of stress on students studying their A-levels and what it is that causes them the most stress. I will be using a questionnaire to find primary research using other students at the college, I will use my findings to tes my hypothesis, then I will evaluate my reserch and findings.

Your supervisors main comments and advice

I need to change the title of the essay to a question and make it more focused and specific. I will also need to discuss the essay with my psychology teacher to ensure that the project does not relate to anything we will study at colllege.

Changes, clarifications or additions you have made as a result of your discussion with your supervisor

I have changed the essay title to 'What effect does anxiety have on performance at A-levels and what is the main cause of this anxiety?'. I have changed my hypothesis to be 'High workload is the main cause of anxiety in A-level students and will casue performance to decrease.' I have discussed the project with my psychology teacher and she cannot see anyway in which my project would be similar to the content of the psychology course I am studying.

Present the topic to be researched in the form of a short statement/question/hypothesis with clear focus.

What effect does anxiety have on performance at A-levels and why? Hypothesis - Higher levels of anxiety will lead to a decrease in performance because of decreased attendance and unmanigable goals.
Provide a brief outline, based upon page 4 of this document, of the researched or activity/task to be carried out and sources to be consulted

I am finding secondary research from a variety of source including text books and the internet i will also be gathering primary research using a questionnaire.
the courses of study or area(s) of personal interest to which the topic relates

The topic is relevant to me as I am currently an A-level student and am experiencing first hand the associated anxiety, i am also studying psychology so I am able to better understand the casues and effects of this anxiety.
your proposed action

I am going to conduct a questionnaire and will then analyse the findings to see whether or not the data supports my hypothesis. I will then look at why the data I found either proved or dissproved my hypothesis.

To be completed by the candidate. This page records your outline plan at the start of your work. Outline the next steps in your planned research/initial development

I am now analysing all of the research that I have done, both primary and secondary, for there usefulness to my project and whether or not the reasearch is reliable and valid.

Your supervisors main comments and advice

Mt project plan needs to have more detail which i should achieve by breaking down the main tasks i have identified into sub-tasks. This is to ensure that i can demonstrate that i have monitored my progress aginst the plan I have put in place to access the higher mark bands.

Changes, clarifications or additions you have made as a result of your discussion with your supervisor and/or the comments from your centre coordinator

I have added more detail into my Gantt charty indictaing exatly what I plan to do in each section and what I need to do for each sub-section and when.

To be completed by the candidate. This page records your outline plan about half-way through your work. Outline the successes, failures, additions and/or changes you made as you followed your plan at start of project

I have had to reduce the size of my sample from what I had initially planned due to the fact that I had unexpected challenges in finding the required sample who were willing to complete my questionnaire. However the data i have managed to gather does support my initial hypothesis along with the secondary research i have got which does have some support for it being the perception of an unmanegable workload that leads to education based stress. I have also found that many of the people who believe that their workload is unmanageable think that it hs lead to them not doing as well on their exams compared with lessons that have less workload pressures. It was difficult to find secondary research that was very similar to my own research as much of it was based in other countries with different education systems or around a different age group.

Outline your planned steps to complete your project

I am now going to complete my introduction and the disscussion of how i can improve my research and analysis of my findings. this will then allow me to write a conclusion on what it is I have found and the extent to which it supports my hypothesis.

Your supervisors main comments and advice at this stage

My Supervisor said that I should ensure that my project fulfils the criteria on the mark scheme for use of resources and Develop and realise. The points most relevant to me in use of resources are detailed research and critical analysis and application of my research. In Develop and Realise I need to make sure that my data is thoroughly analysed, my project plan is fully implemented and I show the evidence of what I have changed and how I have developed my project, communicating my findings in an appropriate format, use a variety of sources and that my project has a coherent structure.

Changes, clarifications or additions you have made as a result of your discussion with your supervisor at this stage

As a result of my supervisor's advice I have reviewed my initial project plan and altered any parts of my project that are not inkeeping with the initial plan. I have also analysed my research further as although i had already analysed it I believed it could have a greater level of detail to what it currently had.

I have ensured that i have followed my plan and have ensured that all of my work has a neccesary level of detail. The project has gone quite well and not too many changes have had to be made, the findings from my research supported my hypothesis.

Summary

To be completed by the candidate. This page records the nature of your project product (abstract). Outline (50 150 words) the nature of your final product, its main content and your conclusion

The report set out to use pre-existing research and new research to see the factors associated with studying A-levels that cause students the most anxiety and how this affects them. The factors looked at were exams, unmanageable workload, failure to achieve goals, lack of control and imbalance between college and home life. The effects of anxiety can include decreased performance, decreased attendance and health implications (e.g. high blood pressure or depression). The results of this showed that the biggest cause of stress is the pressure placed upon students to achieve goals set for them both by their place of education and themself. Goal orientated anxiety may also link in with exam aniety because exams are the most common way of measuring achievements at A-levels and it may be that most of the goals set are regaring exam acheivement, this tends to be more so for girls than boys. It was also found that people who are predicted higher grades are more likely to be dissatisfied by their previous grades.
