Y 2009-2010 Syllabus for: Prerequisite: hours/week: 4 hours/week: 2 DESCRPTIVE TITLE: BIOLOGY COURSE DESCRIPTION: Second year learners focus on Biology, the branch of science which deals with the world of living human and non -human species, including their interactions and relationships with the environment, and the problems they face relative to health, reproduction and heredity, food production, and resource management and conservation. It is design to promote students awareness of the relevance of biology to everyday life. It hel ps students develop a conceptual framework for modern biology and appreciate science as a process. Primary emphasis will be developing an understanding of concepts rather than on memorizing terms and technical details. Laboratory activities that promote guided discovery and hands-on learning provide fist-hand experience with scientific reasoning/methodology, experimental procedures, data collection, analysis and interpretation of results. Specific laboratory experiments, which are mostly simulations, reinforce lecture and discussion of topics. Integration of and provision for a variety of activities that support the multiple intelligences theory and information and communication technology are all imbedded as enrichment activities to diff. types of learners. COURSE OBJECTIVES: At the end of the course, the students are expected to: COGNITIVE: 1. Explain the interrelationship between the different biological processes 2. Illustrate the big picture of life on Earth at a glance with the classification of organism AFFECTIVE: SCIENCE II SCIENCE I No. of Units: 1.8 No. of Lecture No. of Laboratory
1. Demonstrate scientific skill with competence and confidence 2. Develop interest in the field of Biology by reading current events, newspapers and journals PSYCHOMOTOR: 1. Initiate activities in the preservation and conservation of the environment 2. Demonstrate manipulative ability by constructing projects and devising experiments Status 1 L-NU AA Form I-A SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES Revision 0 05 June 2006 Approved:(Sgd) DR.GONZALO T.
