Adam / In Christ
25 August 2013 Pastor Art Brammer, Tay Street Baptist Church http://www.taystreetbaptist.org.nz To be justified means that God declares you to be righteous. Being justified makes us at peace with God (Romans 5:1). In the last part of the chapter Paul deals with the basic idea of our identification with Jesus, being in Christ." Adam is a type of Him who was to come (Romans 5:14). I. Adams sin and its effect A. one mans disobedience only one simple restriction. Though Eve was the first to disobey God, Scripture holds Adam as more accountable (1 Timothy 2:13-14). B. many were made sinners we became a race of sinners 1. How many? Everyone! Romans 3:10, 23. 2. Adams became a sinner himself, and this quality of his nature was passed on to his descendants. 3. Is it fair? Accept it. II. Christs obedience and its effect A. one Mans obedience not His whole life of obedience 1. Verse 18 specifies one righteous act Calvary. - Philippians 2:8 2. Jesus endured the wrath of God against sin when He died. B. many will be made righteous the possibility of justification 1. How many? The offer is made to everyone who was made sinners (see Romans 5:18). 2. This possibility is offered to all, but most have refused it. 3. For those who have responded, they arent made perfect in this life, but they are made perfect in the eyes of God ("justified"). Jesus is called the Last Adam (1 Corinthians 15:45). The recovery of man brings him to a better place than Adam had. You can be justified; you have a choice about that.
