Cannot import portal role in NW 7.31 &...

Hi all,

I wonder if anyone had problem with importing a portal role in SAP NW Portal 7.31 and 7.4 and found a solution/workaround for it. I'd like to import a list of users to an existing portal role (with the option 'Overwrite Existing Data' checked) but I always get the status 'UPDATE FAILED' and the detail gives something like

-------------rdesc=MY_ROLE status=UPDATE FAILED rid=pcd:portal_content/xxx/MY_ROLE uniquename=pcd:portal_content/xxx/MY_ROLE warnings=Error: user=[usr1, usr2, usr3] ---------------

It seems to indicate an error with the user attribute but I just can't see what's wrong. The list of users in the import data is separated by semicolons. This is the import data

and there's no entries in the default trace. I even tried to export a simple role, copy the result, import it back without any change --> same result. I tried both Text File Upload and Plain Text Upload --> same result. I searched SCN --> no luck. I opened an OSS with SAP for a while --> no answer. It happens in both versions NW 7.31 & 7.4

Of course, I can manually assign users to the role one by one but I'd prefer to use the import function :-) Any help and/or advice is greatly appreciated.

capture trace with the security troubleshooting tool: /tshw - manage incidents - general security + com.sap.security.core.persistence com.sap.security.core.performance to see what happens during import. See note 1332726.

Thanks for tips. I checked the general security trace and saw 1 debug entry ----Populate principal databag failed as principal was not found. -----

The thing is I picked a role that has only 1 user. I verified that the user is still valid (no lock whatsoever). I wonder if it is a bug in the portal. Are you able to import a role in your system?

I had similar problems while assigning of portal roles to ABAP groups and was able to do this, if I resigned on description. It seems UME import/export is buggy imho. The import component should be able to import any objects, what are produced by the export, which is in fact not the case, at least not on EP 7.31

Hi Lawrence,

That was it! I thought the export might have some garbage characters so I had tried to delete the end of each line and add CRs properly but I've never thought of deleting the whole line rdesc :-) This is definitely some bugs in the portal and I can say that we have the same problem in both NW 7.31 & NW 7.4
