1 This specification only covers fabricated as welded stainless steel pipe fittings and flanges 2 diameter and larger. Schedule pipe fittings and flanges shall be in accordance with appropriate ASTM specifications. Any deviation from this specification shall be brought to the attention of the Engineer.
1.2
2. CODES AND STANDARDS 2.1 2.2 2.3 2.4 Fabrication, diameter and wall thickness shall conform to Design Standard 4S-02.01. Fittings shall conform to ASTM A774. Except for pressed elbows, fabricated fitting dimensions, as well as flange drilling and flange outside dimensions shall conform to Class 125 for cast iron (ASME B16.1). Pressed elbow dimensions shall conform to the ASME B16.9 for butt welded fittings. Full formed smooth radius elbows are available up to 36 diameter and are preferred for sizes up to 24. However, upon approval by Engineer, 24 and larger may be mitered construction, same material as pipe. (Dimension A, B or C in Table A.) Long radius elbows shall be used unless specified otherwise.
2.5
3. QUALITY CONTROL 3.1 The fitting fabricator and flange manufacturer must have a suitable Quality Control policy and Quality Control manual that shall be submitted to the Engineer/Inspector at the beginning of the contract. All steps should be taken to avoid carbon steel contamination of stainless steel (e.g. weld preparation, grinding, handling, shipping, storage, etc.).
3.2
4. GENERAL 4.1 4.2 4.3 Except for pressed elbows and reducers, fabricated fitting dimensions are the same for both flanged and unflanged type. For dimensions and wall thickness of reducing fittings, refer to the larger pipe diameter. Butt weld Vanstone rings are preferred, for sizes 2 to 4 diameter use pressed Vanstone rings, for sizes 6 and larger use rolled angle Vanstone rings. However, slip-on Vanstone rings 1 may be used whenever specified elsewhere in the documents and inside diameter shall be /16 larger than outside diameter of pipe. Fittings indicated as tees, or crosses shall be manufactured as extruded outlets to comply with o Paragraph 304 of ASME B31.3. Laterals shall be manufactured as 45 nozzle welds. The

minimum flange location for ID only fittings of this type shall conform to Class 125 cast iron (ASME B16.1). The minimum flange location for OD and IPS fittings of this type shall conform to ASME B16.9 plus Vanstone ring dimensions as in Table A, Column Angle M. 4.5 When flanges are required on the small end of reducers, stub ends (MSS SP-43 length) shall be used instead of Vanstone rings on diameters up to and including 12. On larger sizes, use length of pipe and Vanstone ring to make up dimension N on Table A. Pressure rating for fittings, design temperature below 250 F, shall be as follows: Full formed smooth flow elbows and reducers shall be equal to the pipe. Vanstone rings, unreinforced tees, laterals and extruded outlets shall be in accordance with Table B. Reinforced branch connections shall be in accordance with Table C. Mitered elbows shall be in accordance with Table D.
o
4.6
Note: Reduced pressure ratings for larger diameter branch connections and mitered elbows. 4.1 4.2 When a 45 branch enters a reducer, the reinforcing pad may be reduced in length so that the reinforcing pad is between 1 to 2 from the pipe weld. Branch reinforcements defined on 4D-10.04 shall be used where specified on drawings. Branch connection shall not be located on pipe longitudinal weld.
o
5. MATERIAL 5.1 5.2 5.3 5.4 Fitting material shall be equal to that of the pipe. Back-up flanges shall be made from mild steel plate material, ASTM A285, Grade C and flange drilling shall be in accordance with ASME B16.1 and MSS SP-44. Blind flanges shall be made from the same material as mild steel plate back-up flanges with a 1 /16 thick stainless steel cladding tack welded to one side of the flange. Back-up flanges shall preferably be hot dip galvanized. Painted flanges and blind flanges shall be near white blast cleaned as per SSPC SP-10 and painted with one coat of epoxy ester zinc chromate primer to a dry film thickness of 2 mils minimum. 5.5 Material of Vanstone rings shall be made from angle steel ASTM A479, for sizes 6 diameter and up, for 4 diameter and less, ASTM A240.
