Assignment

This assignment was received via e-mail from your office on 1/8/09. At that time I was
advised that there had been a fire in the Pastorium during the evening hours 1/7/09.

The Loss

Inspection revealed that fire obviously originated on the stovetop in the kitchen.
According to Pastor Randall, the power went out (due to high winds) while they were
preparing to go to the Wednesday evening worship service. When the service was over,
they learned that the Pastorium was on fire. It is obvious that a pot was left on the stove
with a burner on while the power was out. When electrical service was restored, the
contents of the pot caught fire. There is nothing suspicious about the origin of the fire.

Damage

Obviously, the most extensive damage was in the area of the kitchen. There was also
extensive fire damage to an adjacent bathroom, hallway, bedroom, and dining room area.
The balance of the dwelling sustained extreme heat, smoke, and water damage.

In regards to the heat and smoke damage, I asked SERVPRO of Florence inspect this loss
to determine what could be cleaned and/or salvaged. Per John Hoover, Jr., there is
nothing inside the dwelling that can be cleaned or salvaged. Per Mr. Hoover, this is due
to the extreme heat throughout the dwelling. This heat cracked ceramic tiling in a
bathroom at the opposite end of the dwelling from where the fire originated.

Repairs

Coverage of $135,000.00 exhausted. While this amount may seem excessive, this
dwelling was custom built (probably in the early 1950’s) and contains a large amount of
Page 2

T&G #2 Knotty Pine paneling, hardwood flooring, ceramic tiling, and custom built
oversized windows. Additionally, the kitchen cabinetry was a “beaded board” material
and would be considered “high end” by any standard.

I’ve already addressed the extreme high heat throughout the dwelling, and as you know,
water used by the fire department caused a great deal of damage.

While my Replacement Cost estimate in the amount of $140,306.50 exceeds policy

limits, it is my opinion that actual repairs to this dwelling would exceed $150,000.00.

Contents

On 1/13/09, I received a list of the damaged contents via e-mail from Pastor Randall. A
copy is attached to this report.
