Volume IV Feb. 1972 Number 2

Dear Brethren in the cold north country:

At this time of the year we often think of home and the cold winters with SNOW (especially the children). They have the feeling that they are missing something special and beautiful.
But we have another beautiful day of sunshine, especially the Sunshine of His Love as we serve
Him here in Recife.

We hope that this Christmas season was indeed a happy time for you and that this New Year brings new joys in serving Jesus Christ. As this year ends and a new one begins, many doors have been opened for us and our prayer is that we will be able to step through that
shouls may be won for Christ.

Our Christmas celebration actually started on Friday night when we took over a hundred

small gifts and 200 oranges and 200 bananas. We arrived there and sang some choruses, carols and Marconi told the Christmas story. Passing out the gifts and fruit caused a great deal of confusion, since everyone in the community wanted something. Our actual Christmas holiday was cut short when I had to leave early on the 26th. by bus

for the Missionary Conference in Anopolis, Goias. I traveled by bus and left the family be hind, because the car would not stand this long of a trip. My only regret was in leaving the
family as the conference would have been as much of a blessing to them as it was to me,
JOHN MEETS LAWYER

Before leaving, I has asked the Lord to lead me to at least one person that was interes

ted in hearing the message of Jesus Christ. My trip was some 34 hojrs old, when a young law yer started talking to me. "Are you an American?" And with this simple phrase began a four hour conference on the value of giving ones life to Jesus Christ. We parted at the Rodarviaric^ bus station at 12:00 p.m. with an agreement to meet again after the conference. Upon return ing to Belo Horizante, I went to Judeau's office and introduced him to another missionary, who will be carrying on the study with him. Judeu had studied 8 years for the priesthood and has decided that this type of life was not for him. I plan to continue corresponding with
him and to one day hear that he has accepted the Lord as his Saviour.
DOCTOR, DOCTOR

The hour was 4:30 p.m. and we were starting to get things ready for a 6:30 Christmas Eve

service at Torre, when in comes Mark with blood all over his arm. While paying with some of the boys, he had fallen into a hole and had hit his arm on a rock. Luckly, it wasn't broken
and we only had a slit of over an inch to close up. Since it would have taken more than two

hours to take him to the Pronto Socorro (Emergency Hospital) and to return, or about $25 at
one of the local clinics and about the same amount of time, "Dr." Vito (so called because of

his interest in medicine and one of the young men with whom we have been working) and I
cleaned the wound and I prepared tape to close the wound. (I had learned this method from

Mable Unkefer of the East Canton congregation).

We finished with the bandage and I went to

the drug store and purchased an ampfela for tetanus and an antibiotic, and we were on
our way.
SONIA

Sonia, one of the older girls that Dona Maria has raised has undergone surgery for navel hernia, which due to the fact that she didn*t tell anyone that it was get ting worse, she had let it go. She appears to be doing fine and says that she will become a Christian when she comes home. Please br praying for Sonia and her sister Maria C. as they have been a great help, but as yet have not accepted Jesus Christ.
FURLOUGH

It is our plans to leave for the States about the first week in May and to re main in the States about four months. During this time we will be visiting our sup porting churches and visiting camps. We hope to raise some additional funds for
cQCT?eRpor>dftTifg> courses, films and a loan fund for New Church Construction. VJe also will be looking for at least one family and a teacher to come and work with us.

We have an opportunity to enter ati area of over 3,500 new homes, biit in order
to do this W(B must be able to start construction by the end of the year on a tempor ary structure. I already have some help promised from some of the interested Brazil ians. One man has agreed to look after the oversight of the project, and he is a very responsible man and one that one day will take Jesus Christ as his Saviour.
Please be praying for us. The John Bush family

Thanksgiving
Dear Christian Friends,

As 1972 draws to a close, we send you this Thanksgiving letter for a number of reasons: 1. To share with you the schedule of the past six months in our efforts to raise monthly support and travel funds; 2, To acquaint you with our new forwarding agents; 3. To inform you of our plans; 4. To inquire if the Church, Bible School, Youth Group or Missionary Group could schedule us for a speaking engagement; 5, To appeal to you for a special offering for our Mission work. In this season, as at all seasons, we are so thankful that we are still free to preach and teach God's work in Brazil. We are also thankful that there are still many who are willing to listen and to respond to Christ's message of love. And we thank Him for blessings that come to us and our work in Recife through you, our dedicated friends and loyal supporters. We thank Him for the accomplishments

of the past 3^ years in Brazil and the challenge of the approaching 4 years as we anticipate our re
turn. And we thank Him for the joy of giving.

Since our arrival to the states in May, we have been able to render some significant service to over thirty-five Churches in over ten states. This does not include the Bible Colleges and hundreds
of individuals who have learned of our work in our 25,000 miles traveled during this time. All in all, we look back with satisfaction and forward with hope. Can you, our supporters, in

this Thanksgiving season, increase the hope of our return? The question before us is to what extent can we minister during the next four years. If our ministry is to be effective, we need the most generous "Thank Offering" that your Church or you as an individual is willing and able to share with us at this time. My wife and I covet your daily prayers for our work of evangelism in Brazil.

What a blessing and encourgement it would be to my family if you would make a sacrificial effort
toward our needed $1,800.00 travel fund, $300.00 for supplies and an additional $350.00 regular

monthly support. Our plans are to return January 1, 1973, if sufficient funds are available. If each of the nearly one thousand on our mailing list would share $2.00, our travel funds would be
made available. Of course, many of you could spare a $10 or a $20, because the Lord has blessed you in this way. You know, of course, that the enclosed postage-free envelope will bring us a one dollar bill as surely as it will bring us a one-hundred dollar check, so, we'll thank you in advance for what ever you send. Whether you send much, or little, or just send a prayer to God on our behalf, it is our prayer that God will bless you immeasurably because you thought of us. Prayerfully yours,

ohn Bush
