Middle-earth was a land of heroes. Some were powerful, great wizards and warriors like Gandalf, Aragorn, Eomer or Boromir. Others were nameless, rank warriors that never got their names sung in the great tales of their time, but none the less, they fought bravely against the evil armies of Sauron or Saruman, following their kings into battle and eventually, to death. Although a great warrior and leader of men, Faramir was never seen as a hero by his father Denethor, who always favored his oldest son Boromir. More than once Faramir tried in vain to show "quality" to his father, well seconded by his company of rangers. Damrod, one of his captains, showed his own many times, faithfully following and serving his leader in battle with no fear of death. In this article you'll find a reference guide on how to paint your own model of Damrod. It is by no means the only way to go, so even if you stick to the way described below, feel free to add your personal touch. Trying new things is always a very good way to improve our skills. I always try to stay close to the movies imagery but it proved hard to get some reference pictures for Damrod, mostly because it wasn't totally clear to me which of Faramir rangers featuring in the movie he was. I looked for a ranger that had some sort of bigger part in the action and, in the end, I chose to use the one that informs Faramir of Gollums presence, in Henneth Annn and later yells that the Nazgul are coming, in Osgilliath (top right). Looking through www.framecaplib.com, this character seems to be in only a few shots, mostly only showing his face or too unrevealing for my needs. In www.alleycatscratch.com/lotr I've found a few pictures of the rangers, and I selected one outfit that resembled the most with what I could see from the movie shots. This was my main reference source to paint this model (bottom right).
