THE SCIENTIFIC METHOD: DETERMINING IF THE LENGTH OF THE STRINGS AFFECT THE NUMBER OF SWINGS OF A STONE AND RING IN THIRTY SECONDS I. Objectives To know the step-by-step procedure in conducting an experiment To determine how the process of scientific method helps us to solve a certain
problem
To determine if the length of the strings affect the number of swings in thirty
seconds.
To know which has the greater number of swings between the stone and
ring.
II.
Science Concept
Pendulum is something hanging from a fixed point which, when pulled back and released, is free to swing down by force of gravity and then out and up because of its inertia. You can calculate the pendulum swings and string length relationship using the formula:
III.
Schematic Procedures
1. Cut the string in three different lengths respectively. Small (6), medium (10), and long (14).
2. Attach the string to the rock and ring and hang it on the iron ring.
3. Record the number of swings made by the stone and ring within thirty seconds.
IV.
Gathering Data: Length of Strings (inch) Number of Swings in Stone Number of Swings in Ring
Short (6 inches) Medium ( 10 inches) Long (14 inches) Analyze and Interpret:
72 55 46
74 56 49
Conclusion: We conclude that the shorter the length of the string, the greater the number of swings made in thirty seconds. The longer the length of the string, the less number of strings within thirty seconds.

Conclusion
Scientific method is the process that we must do or perform when conducting an experiment. It tells us more accurate results and data rather than just answering the problem or question there. It is important for us to know the step-by-step procedures in following the scientific method for us to have an idea of what is happening, is the problem solved and what are the causes that made that situation worst. We conclude that the shorter the length of the string, the greater the number of swings made in thirty seconds. The longer the length of the string, the less number of strings within thirty seconds.
