Plan and implement programs that reflect inclusive principles and value diversity
Programs need to Celebrate the uniqueness of families by planning and integrating culture through activities in which children learn about diverse ways people interact. Diversity is the quality of being different total of a persons experience, backgrounds, physical and mental abilities and belief systems. This may related to culture and ethnicity, language, socioeconomic status, family lifestyle or structure, abilities, disabilities or health status, personalities, appearance, interests, experiences of torture or trauma and experiences of dislocation and resettlement. Incorporate diversity in programs avoiding tokenism and making adaptions to ensure inclusive practices . Stores from diverse cultures are regularly incorporated into the program. Home corner has a diverse range of cultural resources so that events can be explored an imitated. Musical experiences are from different countries and cultures. Incorporating physical experiences and games form diverse countries and culture

Construct the environment to convey images of diversity among children and families Anti bias policies are developed and implemented through ongoing collaboration and reflections with as many members of the early childhood community as possible. Ongoing support and are provided to help staff implement and maintain anti -bias approach. Evaluations and regular feedback are provide to staff to ensures procedures implemented in daily interactions are inclusive respectful in nature. Anti-bias philosophy provides the basis to policies and procedures.

Use information about a range of different abilities, cultural values, beliefs and childrearing practices to foster inclusive childcare practices

A background understanding of each childs home life is required to provide high-quality and relevant care to children. Open and continuous effective communication with family members helps with care routines and creating less confusion Information provided by family members is relied on by educators to gain an understanding of the individual processes in the family. Information used once gathered may be used to provide alternatives and adaptions provide opportunities to build on skills Build on strengths, interests and abilities of each child Modifying practices that may cause conflict between a policy and a childs culture

Provide information to others about inclusive principles How to enact inclusive principles is a fundamental requirement of encouraging and providing an inclusive environment. Strategies to provide information about inclusive practices articles, websites and literature for staff to refer to, staff meetings, professional development, parent handbooks, information evenings for parents, displays of inclusive principles, audio-visual, stories puppets, role plays, modelling by staff of inclusive activities, dealing with situations as they arise with though and discussion, open days and policies and procedures documents.

Regularly identify, evaluate and develop inclusive practices

Regular evaluation is essential to ensure that practices meet the criteria for an inclusive environment. An inclusive environment welcomes and supports al families. Inclusive practices include responsive programming that caters to each child's individual needs, interests and strengths, programs that are rich in play experiences and cater to all areas of childrens development, provision of materials an equipment that are appropriate for children of diverse needs, interests and strengths, involving families in programming of learning experiences that reflect the diverse cultures of the community, evaluating programs to reflect inclusive philosophy and policies, using language that is the childs home language, role modelling respectful and inclusive language.

Identify any current practices which allow bias and develop strategies to address bias

Bias that is occurring needs to be identified and addressed as it occurs. Strategies to identify if bias is occurring requires an active role of educators in seeking feedback from all involved; questionnaires, conversations, observations and listening. Strategies to address bias include adapting to remove the bias; e.g. using respectful and empathetic language.

Summary

The right to access all learning experiences and opportunities , the skills, abilities, cultural and language diversity are the fundamental aspects of an inclusive environment. Programming reflecting the various aspects of diverse cultures allows children to explore differences and gain the respect for the differences. Adapting the environment to meet the needs interests and abilities encourages change to provide opportunities for all to access. To provide appropriate and consistent care an understanding of family culture and practices is essential.
