Purpose Statement
Change is a permanent feature in every sphere of life, and with the advent of WTO, growing globalization of trade and commerce and rapidly expanding technology and communication and information channels, its pace has tremendously enhanced and requires to be properly managed. Management of change in the discipline of business requires special attention, as an unintended, unplanned and misconceived change may prove disastrous, especially when it is not properly managed. A well planned change is the one that is based on organizational theory, and which does not ignore the realities of structure, culture and design of the business organization. A good process of managing change, too, requires to be inclusive of practicing and implementing it basing on theory and design of the organization. The main purpose of this course is to acquaint students with principles and practices of managing change based on organizational theory; that is why the basic text by Gareth R. Jones entitled Organizational Theory, Design, and Change has been selected along with Bert Spectors Implementing Organizational Change: Theory into Practice, as guiding principle.
