May peace and blessing be yours! The seasons begin to change as we are experiencing the last bounty of the garden. The plants have been in heavy production and begin to wane as the cycle of life moves into the harvest. In contrast the life of the church is beginning anew with the start of another school year. The church calendar is not based on the school year but we begin fresh with Sunday school classes and Bible study after taking the summer off. Sonja Gayer and Nancy Johnson are offering a new Sunday school class for parents. Parenting is a rewarding and challenging task. Their class will help parents with the challenges of children moving toward adulthood with practical help and biblical wisdom. Each Sunday morning at 9:45 a.m. I will offer a Bible study for women on Monday afternoons at the church starting September 23 from 1:30-3:00 p.m. I know the afternoon is not convenient for everyone. I would offer a different study in an evening if we have at least five people wanting to do an evening study. This study would not be specific to women. Please let me know if you would like to be a part of a six week evening study and which evening works best for you. Blessings, Pastor Jo Mead

No More Malaria Project A big thank you to everyone for the contributions to the No More Malaria campaign. We will deliver our gift of $737.56 to the Dodge City District office. The loose change gifts have been collected during the months of July and August by the young children in the church after the Childrens Time each Sunday. Thank you to the children for collecting the offering and making a difference in the world. And a huge thank you to everyone who gave generously to help eradicate malaria across the world. This will buy 73 nets which is more than three times our goal! Project Hope Beginning September 1, 2013 Project Hope will return to their mission of feeding the hungry of this community. Donations of clothing and household items will no longer be accepted. Winter outer wear will still be accepted (coats, hats, gloves and mittens.) Project Hope is asking for donations of shelf stable grocery items: pasta, beans, rice, canned goods, and boxed food items. Please note the expiration date on the goods before donating. This is a place we can all help live out the efforts mentioned in Matthew 25: 30-40.

Report on the Uniting Conference in Salina It was quite amazing to be a part of the Uniting Conference in Salina, Kansas August 22-23. We were scheduled to have three days of holy conferencing to bring together Nebraska, Kansas East and Kansas West Conferences into one Great Plains Conference if the three conferences could agree on some very difficult decisions. Not only was the process smooth and grace filled but the conference work was completed a full 24 hours earlier than anticipated! The Spirit was moving in a mighty way to bring the conferences into agreement and solidarity of one conference. Bishop Jones encouraged the body, offered wisdom and also kept the task moving along with a leadership of caring. The mission field in Salina was opened as more than 1,000 delegates to the conference took to the streets, homes, schools, yards and parks to provide a day of service to the hosting community. It was an amazing conference! We will celebrate more fully in January when we officially will raise the banner as the Great Plains Conference.

Bishop Scott Jones will be in SW Kansas Bishop Scott Jones will be preaching at Copeland United Methodist Church on Sunday, September 22.
